First powerlifting comp

I'm competing in my first powerlifting comp next week and hoping for some pointers. I'm pulling 250kg on a standard olympic bar, how much do you think I'd be capable of on a proper deadlift bar?

I'm competing next saturday, should I go hard next week or finish my reps with a couple in the tank. It's a CAPO deadlift comp by the way.

Nice!

I had my first comp back in October, it was great. My advice is to open with a weight you can comfortably triple. With nerves, technicalities, etc, it's an awesome feeling to get something on the board rather than being out for a duck.

Assume they're using a texas bar? If so I've found that adds a few kg, but I wouldn't factor this at all. Treat it as a bonus. On your third attempt, go for a nice PB :)

I get about 20kg carry over from the shitty gym bars to a decent ABC/texas bar.

The texas bar has gotten alot of people unstuck who were not used to it, but being a CAPO deadlift comp, i seriously doubt it will be a texas bar, as far as i know only GPC use the texas bars.

pretty sure capo use th specialist bars, so squat bar, power bar and deadlift bar.

I deadlift 300kg without one, 305kg with one.

Minh says up to 30-40kg if your strong enough......

Maybe I need to get stronger.

I'd seriously stick to a comfortable opener and play it from there.

Deadlift bars don't give me much extra in comp (but I only deadlift 120kg's)

All the CAPO comps will use a deadlift bar.

As for carryover, I can see guys pulling 350+ sumo getting 30/40kg out of it
Emma gets almost 20kg (ground out 110 on an IPF bar, easy 125 with a deadlift bar)

Forgive my ignorance, but what is different about a deadlift bar, and how does it give so many extra kilos to the lift?

People with small hands benefit as its a little thinner.

As its thinner, the bar flexes before the weights break the floor, so your stroke is reduced, and its possible to increase bar speed.

Where are you getting your "information" from?
We used a Texas DL bar at CAPO Nats in August & will be using one at the QLD leg of the deadlift comp & in all states I'm pretty sure...

Depends on your style how much you'll get out of it, I get bugger all as I'm already fast off the floor.

Dont think i get much from it but it feels easier on the lower back so if i had one id be able to deadlift more offen
