yah, but IPF deadlift record is 397.. still farkoff heavy, but not quite "460kg vs 215 snatch"LOL, You know the IPF is tested right?
If you think 90% of lifters at the Olympics are life time drug free your kidding yourself.
Oly lifters, powerlifters, sprinters....... Every sport that is "tested" has athletes that use PED's.

so.. PED assisted snatch =~250kg?
i don't think oly/other tested kiddies are drug free at all, just that their "opportunities" to use them are more limited.. ie, they have to fit the use around the (possible) testing periods
(unless the testing periods are designed to be convenient?)
It's 217kg and watch your language young man!
Behdad Salimi 217+256= 473 (Unofficial Snatch and Total WR)
Fadi.
i'm sorry, i thought you were able to comprehend maths..
if deadlift has proportional carryover to snatch, and extra "assistance" also carries over..
(460/397.5)X 217 = 251kg.
(ie, ("open" DL / "tested" DL) x "tested" snatch = "open" snatch
if deadlift does not have carryover.. then that sorta defeats the whole purpose of your useless thread.
edited for 217kg
If a weak person who had never picked up a barbell before started training using olympic lifts i think this persons strength would gradually increase.
Not saying its the best way but thats the question, thats my opinion. Btw no i didn't read the link and i can't be fucked to read all the comments in this thread
It may have been the original question, but oni keeps adjusting it so that it becomes closer to the answer he wants to share with everyone.

The thread is about the Rippetoe article (that's why the article was posted in the original post!!)
The question "does olympic weightlifting build strength?" implies the question "is olympic weightlifting adequate for strength?"
Training 20+years for toning purposes is an oxymoron
ive just worked out that the thread commits the logical fallacy of 'begging the question....which means Oni has inserted his conclusion inside his argument....which makes it impractical to tackle.
