The guy im training with at the moment is adament that really slowing down your reps gets the best results regarding definition, more so than the high rep stuff. He also claims the best way to get Shoulder definition, and even size for that matter, if to use light weights with really slow movements for the rear delts.

Can anyone back this up?

Rep speed is quite a debateable, there are some that swear by it while others say it's a gimmick
There is also slow going down and fast going up
example: for bench press
take like 3 seconds to bring the weight to ur chest, then explode the weight up as fast as u can

Hi Coop,

Does the guy you're training with have exceptional size and definition to back up his claims?

Hi Coop,

Does the guy you're training with have exceptional size and definition to back up his claims?

That was my question. If a skinny guy who has been lifting weights for a while trys to tell you how to bulk up you`d have to be a little skeptical of his advice.
If he has no formal credentials or no real life credentials look for advice elsewhere.
Bear in mind also that there is a lot of info out there that contradicts and what works for one person doesn`t always work for others.Take it all in with an open mind and find out what works for you.
Years ago I met some of the guys from one of those male dance/stripper groups and they did very light weights, high reps, and at a high speed and they were all ripped.

The guy had a car accident so has only just got back into training because of me the last 4 weeks. I have only known him for 5 months and didnt see him before his accident, so it hard to know how ripped he was. He hasnt trained for about 7 months. He says he was looking good, but who knows.

I tried something like that only i used heavy weights but did the reps slowly. It did work for a lil while but i found doing your normal thing but then do the last rep like this until failure seemed to work even better. But im a n00b so i can only speak of my personal experiences.
