Crossfit is slowly picking up pace So what do you think? Is it a fitness fad that will catch fire then fade out or do you think this is a slow trend that will establish itself into them mainstream as people turn to more functional type goals?
Crossfit has attracted many labels since it started taking hold, one should never really base the decision of taking part in a workout program based solely on reputation and word of mouth. It's far more important to focus on the results that are achieved overall and how those results are gained.
So do you think it is a fad like Les Mills classes?
It certainly has its flaws, but i think people get the wrong idea due to videos they see online. If someone's goal is allround general fitness then its pretty good for that. However most people want to bias toward strength, so its not suitable for them.
Its funny how theres idiots who have gotten pinned under a benchpress yet bodybuilding doesnt get a bad name. These have similar amount of relevance.
I think its downfall will be its cost. Crossfit gyms pay 5k pa for their affiliation and majority charge ALOT for their memberships. Their client base has been willing to pay it due to the uniqueness, team atmosphere and close coaching as opposed to the commercial gym marketspace. Hardly any competitors in Australia, PTC is obviously growing. In USA, theyre very popular - oly lifting gyms, PL gyms and gyms that specialise in sports prep. These are all cheaper.
The proper way to make someone flexible strong and muscular, safely is through one on one supervision, but it is costly due to the fact that activities like aerobics, spinning, boxing classes, crossfit and the new kid on the block tough muddier are activities where a bloke can make a quick buck.
So it is pushed down our throats that this is the best way.
Probably the best thing Crossfit is doing is getting more women into effective resistance training. One of the downsides is the way they aren't modifying themselves to the mainstream. I was talking to some mates who work at a large fitness retailer yesterday, and they are devoting an entire section of their shop to Crossfit. I think it needs to be modified so it can reach a much larger market. Many bodybuilders and trainers in the gym could be more inclined to give it a go if Crossfitters weren't so intent on bashing regular weight training.

The crossfit trainers will probably just lift off some standard BB template. Call it crossfit bodybuilding and then claim crossfit works better for bodybuilding.
Since most people's goal is general fitness, I see Crossfit having good longevity. On par with Pilates. At least it gets women lifting real weights. I get pretty tired of pt's and gyms wasting women's time and effort with misinformation.
What it has going for it is the sense of accomplishment for completing the daily workouts and the variety.
