I heard about them a while back on bb.com but just saw them for the first time at coles today. $4 for 2kg so I got some. I thought exactly the same thing Bazza. Will try em out this week and let you guys know. They look exactly the same as normal white potatoes.
pretty sure they have about half the carbs of normal potatoes? i bought them a couple of times and payed the same coin as regular potatoes. if your really worried about the carbs in potatoes just dont eat them. eat more bacon instead
Bellita is another one, but it is marketed as "low carb", 9.5g carbs/100g Bellita – a naturally low-carb potato | The Home Economics blog
there are other waxy potatos with lower carbs/lower GI than "normal" potatos... but fark, does it make any difference?
pretty sure they just have higher water content, so for the same weight, have less carbs, and slightly different starches....
(but can't remember exactly where I read that.. then again, if it is not protein, carbs or fibre... then it is water.. potato aint complicated)
the recommended way of cooking keeps them "low GI", so if you cook other ways.. they are no longer low GI?
at 55, they are only just low GI.. 56 makes them medium GI
