How about training for strength, not aesthetics? The goals are measurable and objective. The technical side of things is fascinating, if you're drawn to detail and the online info is unbelievable these days. If you were to compete, the combinations of age and weight classes give us old blokes our own paddock away from the young bucks. Aesthetics is still a side-effect, but me, I feel much more comfortable telling the kids I'm training to be strong, rather than training to be beautiful/sexy/whatever.
