Love the facial expression, love the zero equip, love the depth
Seriously, for me that blows away all those powerlifting pictures where the squatters have wide stance, barely legal depth, knee wraps, belt, suit ect.
Interesting point. One of the contestants bought a powerlifter on Strongman day. He is the 6th ranked powerlifter in Australia at 100kg.
He told us all his best equipped lifts, over 300kg in the squat and dead, near enough 200kg in the bench. He doesnt know his best raw lifts because he doesnt test his raw strength, he only had guesses, which I dont repeat.
Very nice fellow, looked strong. He tried to pick up the 93kg Granite Stone in my driveway, no chance. We explained that little nick, 70kg, lifted it to his chest on his first attempt. He didnt believe us. We then explained Matt threw it onto his delt like a basketball, but he is 100kg. Matt also squats 200kg, benches 170kg and deadlifts 260kg raw.
He then tried to single arm press the PTC DB. It was one of the events. Big Nick won with 18 reps.
This guy missed it on his first attempt. We have never had this event at PTC before. Shorty, who knows this guy, was blown away when he saw Daryl, 17, 64kg, a few months training with Max, smash it in the air on his first attempt.
Like Oli, who spat the dummy and ran away when his training is questioned, this guy trains to lift more weight, not get strong. There is a massive difference. Sixth ranked lifter in Oz.
I had 2 competetive PL at AD10, Shorty and Simon. Simon has qualified for the World Youth Championships in PL, he finished 6th in the 5 lift and didnt lift in the strongman. Shorty finished 4th in the 5 lift and 21st out of 27 at Strongman.
He is the first to admit that he doesnt lift for functional strength.
Daryl is the same height and 3kg lighter than Shorty, he finished 8th in the 5 lift and 11th in the Strongman. He has around 4 months of training behind him, twice a week, full body.
On Saturday he finished with:
DARYL 64kg
Squat 150kg
Bench 101kg
Powerclean 92.5kg
Overhead 80kg
Deadlift 177.5kg
Total 601kg
There were many other success stories, Bluey and James went after 700kg and got it. Big Chris wanted 800kg and got 815kg, Matt got 865kg, and was only good for 3rd lol.
6 lifters pulled 260kg plus
5 lifters benched 150kg plus
4 lifters squatted 200kg plus (and 2 others missed it)
I'd like to thank all the ausbb members for competing and making it a huge success..........again
