Anyone divebomb squat???

I've been watching some squats where the person drops down/descends quikly and gets some bounce out of 'the hole'.
I tried it the other day, it was good for low reps but hurt like hell doing higher reps.

This gym does it:

also Shane Hammon

What are the pros and cons of this style?? Any thoughts?

Cheers,
Dicko

done correctly

ie tight

there are no cons, only pros
more weight lifted

Stretch Shortening Cycle

its a misconception calling it a drop
if you drop it is not correct technique, it is like drawing a bow or a slingshot
there is always a controlled resistance

for example the upper body is tight and flexed, quads, and glutes push up as the hammies curl the body down as the hips are pushed back

the body is accelerated from the drop with max speed at the point of reversal

uses the bodies natural Stretch Reflex to return the energy stored on the eccentric phase to give you power for the concentric, works for bench too
even deadlifts believe it or not

I tend to drop down fast when I squat, however sometimes I tend to lose balance a bit and the weight starts shifting to my toes.

divebomb is not a good way to describe it - it implies that you just drop without control. Those guys in the vids are able to drop that fast without losing tightness, but very few people can do this. But that doesn't mean you don't try and take advantage of the stretch shortening cycle as titan_au described. You still try and accelerate as much as you can without sacrificing too much balance or tightness.

The first video is the most perfect example of "ATG" you will see.

Although bouncing like that is something I wouldn't recommend
