Adam Coe

That's why I'm going to compete at ProRaw.

I know there will be guys in my weight class totalling 300kg more than me but that's just good motivation.

EDIT: Plus it will be good to see some really strong blokes lifting.

Cheers again Markos....

Adam, I often tell my lifters

Squat for a total then deadlift to win, lay on a bench for a rest in between.

Our Saturday sessions are now like mini comps, its the only times I allow lifters to go for a 1RM, we have no time and room restraints

Hey Markos ; this font/size/colour ok..???? HA HA HA HA..

I reckon Saturday Sessions (not the type spent @ the local pub..) will DEFINITELY produce great results (especially for those lifters working hard-labour jobs, of the sort you've previously mentioned...). Sounds like a TOP idea to me..!!

Kool reply..!@!@

TOP reply Nathan..!! I, too, can recall top-level lifters OPENING their bench with weights higher than which I had previously squatted (Rod Sylvia, 240kg OPENING Bench @ 100kg B'weight, 1986 Victorian Titles...40kg MORE than my final Sq..!!! ). However, absolutely INSPIRATIONAL stuff..!!

Hey Dave....

I would go.

Hey Dave....why waste your time..??? Seeing a grey-haired, washed-up old fella like me talking c**p all evening-long...HA HA HA HA..!@!@

But seriously.....sounds like a kool idea. ESPECIALLY the previous post, courtesy of Markos, suggesting a few of the old-time lifters getting together in one place at one time. Baz (Barry Murray..) is somewhere in East Melbourne, Joe Zollo resides somewhere Bayswater-way, Laurie's just 'over-the-border', Big Rod Beckham (& Dale Leonard..) should be 'floating-around' somewhere, Bruce Rigby could be somewhere on the Mornington-Peninsula.? Others will probably 'spring-to-mind' as I prattle-on....

Thanks again Markos....

Cheers again Markos. Your enthusiasm is GREATLY admired (& appreciated...). Please refer my post elsewhere re : 'old-time' lifters still living in sunny Victoria...

Later.!

Pro-Raw Show..??

Never mind the 'strippers' just yet...what's 'Pro-Raw' Markos..???

B.T.W. Last time I was @ the Frankston Football Club was probably 1977 or '78. My father had two Car-Yards in Frankston at this time (one near 'Best Legs in Town'..) & the other on Wells Road, Seaford. He had Daihatsu & Suzuki franchises, & the local council (with other support...) hosted a Car Show on the football oval. Should be a 'Trip-Down-Memory-Lane'..!

Whoops ; forgot Charles & Leigh.!

180sx kid..???

awesome idea. Id come to a seminar with adam coe in a flash.. Id also attend the pubs and strippers afterwards.

180sx Kid..??? HA HA HA..!! Good One..!!

Strippers would probably be better value...at least they'll 'get-their-gear-off'.....

Just making sure I understand this:

So when you were on the verge of over-training you would keep lifting heavy but change up your routine as opposed to doing the same routine but dropping the weight and building back up?

Er....yep, sounds about right. On the 'odd' occasion one becomes 'stale' (or overtrained...), my thoughts would be to continue-on with the routine, however, drop-back on the weights. You'll be SO close to competition-time that it'll be that 'fine-line' I've previously referred-to. Not fun, but...part of the 'learning-curve'.

Funny Stories from Yesteryear...

Top thread, i can relate with the 10 minute rests when your utterly smashing yourself
Im in for the seminar

Im in for this too, not only for the strippers but the looks of patrons/bouncers when 50 powerlifter types walk in all at once haha

In case I forget (which seems to be more commonplace these days...), please remind one of us (old-timers...) to relate the story 'bout the 1999 C.A.P.O national Titles in lovely, tropical Canberra (re : Canberra Casino), & also another 'funny' which took place prior to the 1992 Nationals @ Spartans Gym in Kilsyth....

Forgot....Bill Lyndon..???

Hey Markos : Big Bill Lyndon has some-sort of Facebook Profile for some sort of group he's organised. He'd be worth a shot....

Hi Adam and everyone else,

My name is Kelly I'm a teen lifter from the NT. I was just wondering about the sort of sacrifices you had to make health wise to get as far as you did? Obviously your health is your business but you've mentioned that powerlifting at the elite level is probably not healthy and I've heard stories of at least one spectacular injury (nationals in Darwin). Also seeing Ed Coan and Laurie Butler bleeding from the nose during a heavy squat would seem to confirm this, as far as high blood pressure anyway. Then again having seen you at the nationals you don't seem to be plagued by old injuries etc. in fact I'd say you more energetic than most. I ask because I'd love to go down the same sort of path (genetics permitting) and so I guess my question is do you think chasing a ten times bodyweight plus total and having your name among the greats is worth it or will it come back to bite you in the end?

I'm also curious about your take on raw lifting? Do you think It's a good idea to lift raw long term or are we leaving ourselves open to injuries by going heavy without equipment? I know most of the guys on here prefer raw and each to their own but I'd still love to hear your opinion on the subject.

Finally I was wondering if you could confirm some of the "Adam Coe Legends" I've heard from the older powerlifters up here. Is it true that the year you made the 960 total it was second in the world only to Ed Coans?

Sorry if this is a lot to reply to, it's not often I get to pick the brains of someone with your experience. I think it's great that you find the time to chat with some budding lifters on a forum and the seminars sound like a great idea (if only the were closer to me). Oh and before I forget I think you might have misplaced an 'n' from your last name (well at least it wouldn't surprise me. Thanks again.

wow- awesome thread- great to see you on here Adam. Its not often people get to speak directly to a legend. Thanks for making the time to come on and answer questions.

WoW..!@#@!

Cheers again Markos ; GOOD LORD, this is BIGGER than 'Ben Hur'.!! Still can't believe it..!!

Legend..????

wow- awesome thread- great to see you on here Adam. Its not often people get to speak directly to a legend. Thanks for making the time to come on and answer questions.

Legend.? Isn't that a some sort of Honda motor vehicle..??

Thankyou for your compliment, although...I'm hardly a 'legend'. Try Laurie Butler for a closer definition of a 'Powerlifting Legend'...

I'll try to update each morning ; I see Kelly (from sunny N.T) has posted a 2,000,000 word essay here ; I'll need about two days to answer.! ....But seriously, you guys can just 'ask-away'. Although....to be honest, I think a vast number of modern-day lifters could teach me a thing-or-two.!
