I sent that photo to Reg's son and he replied: I have to agree. Reg Park was one of the all time greats of this game. If he'd taken steroids he would have been absolutely phenomenally big, but not have lived as long a life as he did.

I met him at Ellis Park Swimming Pool in Johannesburg, South Africa. Also met his son Jon Jon, an olympic swimmer. Thanks, when did you buy them? The people selling them make a point of saying that they are constantly updating the quality and technology used in making them. Case in point...

Woody, that's great information. Thanks man. A situation that should really never happen, unless something is very wrong. I'm going to use a rubber strap cut into pieces and superglued to the metal. Straps looks like the rubber strap you see here: Didn't plan to. I'll be doing basic...

Haha, thanks Bazza! I imagine you're correct. But I want to indulge myself a little, which is why I bought a barbell with specs waaaaay beyond what I need. So sue me. :) On another topic, I have a lot of spare rubber lying around so I'm thinking of lining the bar catchers with it to prevent...

Thanks Timeah, good to know. Does anyone know anything about servicing needle bearings? Most bars have bushings that are simple to look after (lots of videos on youtube), but there's not much about needle bearings. Are they even serviceable by an end user?

Only around 11kg, but I have spare 25mm plates lying around to make up for it. Chroming is good, no rust or chips, nice knurling, plates are well painted and weight slightly more than stated (suspect it's the thick enamel paint that causes it). Collars have useful rubber or silicone gaskets for...

Aldi selling workout equipment this week

Bought the dumbbells, quite nice quality. Oly barbells looked a bit underpowered, so passed on that. Very small stock of rubber plates so move quickly.

yes, I'm sure the weights I was using back in the 1970s are still being used by someone, somewhere. :) Bought some dumbbells and a strap from Aldi this morning. Dumbbells are 1"-holed, but fine for dumbbell work. Much cheaper than the typical Aussie outlet sells them.
