My Deadlift Needs Help. Criticise me?

Simply dropping your knees forward will take the slack out of your hamstrings. Pulling your knees forward, or rather pulling yourself into the bar, will load them up. Pull yourself into the bar, then pull back and lock out.

This morning a female client did her first 100kg deadlift, then I decided it was too light and got her to do 105kg.

Today at the uni gym I saw guys using belts to deadlift 70kg, and they still couldn't keep their lower back in anything close to extension.

    The PB Thread

I've been learning to use knee wraps. Squatted 3x5x140kg in them today, while weighing 70kg.

the what u saw at the gym TODAY thread

Today I saw a female client take a weight that she couldn't squat for 1 rep last week and smash out 5 reps with it. I then saw her sumo deadlifting 6x80kg and 3x90kg. I look forward to her first 100kg deadlift, coming soon. I then had a guy from church come in for a one-off session to check out...

As a beginner, how did you set your goals?

I was 12 years old, 5 foot nothing and 25kg, which put me at a BMI of approximately HowAreYouNotDead? My immediate goal every time I exercised was to either do more reps or do a harder version of a given exercise (eg moving from knee push ups to toe push ups, increasing ROM, using heavier...

    What's the biggest 'bro' movement?

What, you can't be a samurai AND a bloke at the same time?

    What's the biggest 'bro' movement?

Biggest waste of time I see is people doing bouncy calf raises. Calf raises are good; achilles raises aren't so useful. Oddly enough, I find pull ups/downs with a grip about 1 hand's width closer than this is about the only form my shoulders can handle. Closer grip, hammer grip or supine grip...

What are you or what did you train today?

I'll be doing OHP, push press, weighted pull ups and rows today. Progress on these exercises is coming along quite nicely this cycle, for a change.

First upper body workout of the week today. Bench press, CGBP, incline DBBP, either pull ups or lat pull downs, and cable rows.

the what u saw at the gym TODAY thread

Last night I saw big powerlifters conceding that pec flies are valid, useful exercises. Everyone else got to see me using knee wraps for the first time. The consensus is that watching me make my way to the squat rack with wraps on was hilarious.

How much time do you spend in the gym?

    1) How many days per week do you train? I'm on holidays now, so I'll be targeting 6 days per week. During semester it's usually 4 days per week, during prac that's likely to drop right back to 1 day per week. 2) How long are most of your sessions? 1-2 hours.

Whats your favorite, commonly heard or just whacky weightlifting-specific myths or ad

Aim to gain 0.5/wk to build muscle....when very few people can gain more than 0.25kg/wk in lean body mass in the best circumstances, and it's all downhill from there. Once you're building as much as you can, more isn't better.

Whats your favorite, commonly heard or just whacky weightlifting-specific myths or ad

Higher volume than 1x5 deadlifts is reckless overtraining.
