    Powerlifting - Your first meet

Scott always put on a BBQ and his missus usually has a whole bunch of cakes for sale. I used to just bring 3 PB, banana, honey sandwiches, drinks, couple of fruit and a bag of lollies. Then I'd buy something at the BBQ and cakes. It's pretty much a whole day that's you're there.

that's some crazy shit. probably would have got 30 with you whispering in his ear and touching his bar though right? :D

    Spotting the squat

If you are doing 20 reps, in a cage why would you need a spotter? The craziest 20 rep I saw was Sticky doing 160 for 20 reps... that was about 60% of his 1rm at the time. he did it out of squat stands on a platform and used bumper plates as his failsafe. so if you are using 50-60% of your 1rm...

    Spotting the squat

You've posted this in the powerlifting section. High rep squats = 5 reps. Powerlifters doing 5 reps = a weight you can't safely handle by hands on the bar. Also, powerlifters generally don't do the "it's all you bro, 3 more reps" spots. The spotter is purely there to catch if they fail that...

    Spotting the squat

yes. They are there to prevent the bar from crashing down. Think about it. you're most likely to fail at the bottom of the squat. At that point the bar is at around belly height for a spotter if they are standing upright (wrong way but just o make my point about where the bar is) In any comp...

    Spotting the squat

The heaviest squat I failed on was 200kg I went down, starting coming back up and just as I got back up to parallel I couldn't go any further and started to go back down again. My Spotter had his arms under my pits ready to grab me. and he did. basically like a bear hug to help me squat back...

    Beginners: Why weights?

People use to travel interstate for newbie comps when stuff wasn't available locally. Not sure where you live or your situation but I'm just saying, it's one day. I'm sure you can find a way to make it happen.

    Beginners: Why weights?

Don't wait to compete I reckon. competing promotes mental motivation. I'm not saying go join a fed. I'm saying in each state there is a PTC gym now. Each of them have monthly comps for newbies. no membership, no soft suits.. pay your $30, lift using world class equipment and be judged by...

wow.. 8 pages.. go team. Genics - I agree with old man silver.. you need to see a physio.. but if you want to know what they will say and suggest 99% of the time it will be.. "stop pressing movements or reduce to basically just the bar" "do these rotator cuff movements with a band in all...

    Robert Wilkes Capo

Hey chief.. back in 1990 the Aus govt had a few other things on its plate like a little recession... so probably didn't have time to be a little "more proactive" with your little unknown sport that's like weightlifting but not exactly the same.
