The "Lets flog a dead horse and talk about bench ROM" thread

I'm sure there's a scandanavian girl somewhere that could bench press that.

The "Lets flog a dead horse and talk about bench ROM" thread

It's the best thread. On a related note here's Louie simmons box squatting, it looks like a dwarf getting on and off a bar stool. (after ed coan, @5:39 or so)

I was going to link you a clip and say "I can show you better". But I can't. I just burst out laughing.

    Power lifting / strongman vids!

That's pretty funny. I've been there but I don't think its mental strength so much as a set mattering too much to a manic depressive :P (again, talking from experience here). His internal drive for weightlifting is really good though.

    3 x 8 or 5 x 5?

Amen but 5x5 even alone is good for a noob I think, for reasons bazza said earlier (and every good coach reiterates) - that is form doesnt get shitty like it does on the final reps of a 10 rep set. Especially I'm finding for squat and deads - I do 5x5 to technique failure. Bazza has a good...

Which row is the best for assisting deadlift and grip strength?

It better be more forthcoming than the 115kg jerk!

Which row is the best for assisting deadlift and grip strength?

60kg for 20 reps REALLY? I can chin with 25kg on me for 8 reps, so 130kg total weight x 8, and fresh MAYBE I could row 50kg for 10 reps. I want to see a vid of you doing 60x20 or your dumbell row form!

    Bigger TrapS

Have never seen a pic of Andy/silverback or Darkoz, would be interesting to see what the 'gurus' look like though, it is a fair point. Dont think there are many of us (who are steroid free) who have much to write home about anyway. Maybe Rugby88, or Bazza since he presses 100kg+.

    3 x 8 or 5 x 5?

Always better to gradually add volume. So to start with I'd say you are looking at 5x5 OR 3x8. When I could bench 120 as a max I just did 5x5 twice a week on bench / overhead press to get me there. I did some front delt accessory work too, lateral raises with 3x10 and a lot of chin ups and...

    3 x 8 or 5 x 5?

Good video alpha. @bigruff ; Sheiko works on adding volume, arguably the most succesful powerlifting routine (one used by massive bastards and the same bodybuilder in the above video). The old adage 'to bench more bench more' means do more volume per week. Many bodybuilders will cite increased...

    Bigger TrapS

Well I think oly lifters have a better idea than anyone on how to overhead press properly, especially with regard to shoulder health. And I can tell you as far as development goes they're impressive, their were girls where I went with massive delts. Also I agree with what Bazza said above...

    Bigger TrapS

When I trained briefly with some oly lifters they all shrugged towards the top. It's really just a natural thing that happens for most people as they lift the weight behind their head a little. I found not doing it caused shoulder aggravation. I still get plenty of shoulder stimulation, on the...

    Bigger TrapS

Overhead press works them pretty well for me. Pressing 60-80kg smashes my traps far more than deadlifting 130kg for sets. My press weight is more advanced than my deadlift weight though.

    3 x 8 or 5 x 5?

Start with 5x5 adding weight and increasing rep times till you fail at 5x5. Record your PB for 5x5. Then reset 5x5 weight and add 1x8 of a similar exercise (front squats, incline bench, dips, etc.). Keep adding weight to 5x5 till (hopefully) bypass your previous PB for 5x5. Make the early light...

    Adding Volume Systematically

Just wondering what people think on adding volume systematically. There are a lot of workouts out there but I think you will plateau on almost every one of them (or not progress as fast as you could) unless that workout adds volume in a systematic way. * The simple version is 'to bench more...
