How did you learn to do proper deadlifts and squats?

When my squats and deadlifts meet my own standards for squats and deadlifts, I'll let you know how I learned to squat and deadlift.

    What is your training philosophy?

^ Is that your training philosophy, or your philosophy about discussing philosophies? My training philosophy is "Squat is dead."

    What`s good about your gym

The people and camaraderie, the hard-on for Texas barbells, the location being 5min from home, and I like to the think the trainers aren't total crap.

it is Sunday. Tell us your Victory this week.

    - Completed 2 weeks of 6 day/wk squats, hitting a PB high bar squat of 140kg. - Didn't get injured in the process (although my knees were definitely feeling it by the end). - Wowed a client by modifying his squat technique to move around a non-gym-related injury he had a week earlier, allowing...

Are there any popular workouts that you find overused and not very effective? (

It's a neat program. I don't think there's anything bad about it, but there are 2 things I feel could be improved upon. Firstly, I'd like AP better if it had pull ups/downs instead of curls, but I understand why he put curls in that place -- easier to fit with the progression scheme, more...

Are there any popular workouts that you find overused and not very effective? (

A common PL split probably won't have a day for arms, and might space out the days a bit more. Still, a squat day, a bench day, a deadlift day, and either a press day or a second bench day is nothing out of the ordinary, and plenty of powerlifters will swear by such a split.

200kg decline bench for reps. That's mighty impressive.

    The PB Thread

140kg high bar squat today. I don't think I've ever high barred more than 130kg before.

In a face-to-face course you do. I guess online courses have some other method of assessment. I think you'd definitely get more out of having to do real life instruction than just demonstrating an understanding of the theory.

How many times a week do you train legs?

Normally I train legs 2-3 times a week. Right now I'm doing very high frequency squatting, though, on a little 2-week stint of 6 days a week, which will be finished tomorrow. It's definitely been effective: I've added 15kg to my 5x5 and 10kg to my 1RM in that time. It's taking its toll, though...

I haven't read Beyond 5/3/1, I've just got the original manual. I'm googling this, so hopefully the descriptions I'm getting accurately reflect Wendler's intention. From what I'm gathering, Joker sets sound like something I do on occasion, typically when I've been dikking around in the gym for a...

I did it at TAFE, and it was a semester (about 18 weeks) each for Cert 3 and Cert 4, another full year for Diploma. A lot of private courses are about 12 weeks for Cert 3+4 combined. I've heard of some people getting it all online in about 2 weeks. A single weekend is crazy.

Never heard of 8/6/3. I don't think that variant was in circulation back when I gave 5/3/1 a run for its money. *looks up 8/6/3* Okay, at a cursory skim, that seems to be more or less the same thing, just with slightly lower starting weights. Same method, though. The original program's designed...

Are there any popular workouts that you find overused and not very effective? (

Basically all the really popular cookie-cutter strength programs that everyone has a hard-on for over at bb.com. SS, SL5x5, Madcow's 5x5 (and the Bill Starr program that it was ctrlC+V'd from), 5/3/1. I did find the Texas Method worked to some degree when I was doing it, although not more...

As one of these PT's who doesn't even lift, today I saw one of my female clients deadlift a little more than her bodyweight with reasonable form (wasn't keeping the bar against her legs, but her back was set and she had a good setup and lockout) for an easy set of 5. This was her third time...

    45 degree sled leg press

I miss the leg press. Haven't used one in years, haven't had access to one since 2012. But it's a good piece of equipment to have at your disposal. Back in the day, when I used to do leg presses, I remember doing 300kg with 2 legs, but struggling to do 50kg with one leg. I'm quite curious to...

    StrongLifts or Starting Strength?

Totez right. Can't build muscle unless you already lift 100/140/180.

From what I can tell, it's basically cuddle your opponent, then punch them in the dick and, yeah, gouge out their eyes.
