I don't know about any row being the best for assisting deadlift, but my favourite rows are chest supported db rows and wide grip cable rows.

Yeah if you want to do any squats, bench, deadlift etc you have to go during the staffed hours. Pretty annoying. I went there one night planning do do deadlifts and I walked around the gym for a good few minutes scratching my head wondering where all the bars had gone.
It's actually a pretty good gym but they recently went 24 hrs and I guess they don't want people to pin themselves under a failed bench/squat when no one else is around to save them.
