One I read today from Harry Selkow which i enjoyed.
'We squat, bench, and deadlift, and we do pull-ups. If your program lacks any one of these components, you don’t have a program in my opinion.'
Amen.
Hey all,
I read alot of articles, studies, forums, books and blogs devoted to training. Aswell as spending a decent slice of my time talking shop with other lifter's. As such iv'e read and heard some quality things written and said. My favourite's being comical line's from bro's at teh gym...
After beginner gains iv'e struggled to increase any strength and size without fat gain. I always eat clean, just when gaining i add carbs brekky, post workout and drink some milk through the day. Then will cut, losing the carbs and milk.
I wish i could gain and stay lean but i just can't crack it.
Do you not have any fighter's at your gym? most decent gym's will always have fighter's in preperation for a bout. My last mauy thai gym had someone on a card most every week, and they can't spa with themselves....
^ Yeah don't get me wrong, if someone ask's between set's how long i have left, i alway's offer to work in, will even help them change weights. I jus hate the 'are you using that?' bullshit approach!
3 hr's a night 6 day's a week? whats an average session look like? When i was boxing session's would last 1.5 hours most. If i was was sparring would be done in under an hour.
Thats enough time for few km run, few round of skipping, shadow boxing, bad work, pad work and some strength and...
triceps work everytime you press. The go-to's for me have always been cgp's and dip's, if needed maybe some cable push down's.
Skull crushers etc don't agree with elblow's too well imo
Whats your bench press number's? what weight do you dip with?
If that was me, i would of said 'i'm done when i'm done champ' and went on to perform the rest of my workout in the rack. Nothing worse then people that ask 'are you using that' when you are in the middle of a workset.
Rack, oly barbell a quality elieko barbell and bumper plates up to 300+kg's, cable cross over, prowler sled, adjustable bench, power tower and some floor covering. With the change some kb's and db's.
When i dead i start explosively with 1 plate and work up to 4 or 5 for work sets adding a plate each set. For bench, squat and press i just do a set on 1 plate, quick stretch in rest period and straight to working weight.
Been training at adrenaline warwick, isn't too bad. power rack, half rack, few benches, cable cross over's and enough barbells. Think the dumbells go up to 60kg. I just paid $50 for a month trial.
I won't be looking to alter the program at all on the 4 main lift's. Iv'e never had a periodized program with weigths laid out for me, so that's part of the attraction of the 5/3/1.
I'm aware that the program is good for gradual gain's which is what i'm chasing, as i said previously, i just...
Hey,
I'm looking at trying the wendler 5/3/1 program and seeking some feedback from those that have experienced it through their own trials or that of clients etc.
Planning on training 4x p/w with deadlift, bench, squat, press day's and 2 assistance lifts each day. With 2-3 conditioning day's...
