Deadlift/Squat comparo

Great question. Nick has perfect form on squatting. Whenever this occurs, the numbers will be very close.

Nick 210kg squat
Nick 200kg box squat (29cm box)
Nick 155kg x 20

Last time Max did a box squat to the same box his numbers were

Max 162.5kg squat
Max 150kg box squat
Max 130kg x 20

That was on the same day as Nicks. Last night Max squatted 170kg. I'm guessing his box squat PB may be higher as well, but currently untested.

These are the 2 best squatters at PTC. The results for guys with less than perfect form vary wildly. Unbelievably, some squat more during box squats than regular lol

Nick has missed 216kg three times now, its the gym record and double bodyweight.

Markos,

How do you qualify a good squat in your comps, is it hips at least down to knee level?

Yeah, I use the powerlifting model of hip lower than knee. Most of my lifters go much deeper than that though.

Nick and Max squat like Olympic lifters, high bar, narrow stance, deep.

Those that squat like powerlifters, low bar, wide stance, shallow are the ones who have trouble at my comps. That style is more suited to guys wearing belts/suits/wraps, they rely on the equipment.

Nick and Max rely on their strength lol.

I dont have many clients who squat PL style, although I have no issue with it. I let lifters use whatever style they are more comfortable with.

But I explain, that if you are going to squat raw and deep, you cant do better than squat OS. Max is only 5kg short of 2.5 x bodyweight using that style.

Very little judging required when PTC lifters are competing at my comps Adrian.

I still have your T Shirt here as well. I need a DB rack, will contact you shortly

He's trying to catch you Ray, he C&J 105kg last night, just missed 110kg on the jerk

Nice results at the comp to Ray, well done. I'll have to buy more plates for you in January lol

Thanks Markos, at the rate Max has been progressing i'm worried he'll have me covered in all lifts bar the bench press for the time being.

But we'll see on AD2010 ;)

Your a much better/smarter competition lifter Ray. He lacks experience and maturity on the day.

As you know I dont coach lifters on the day, I let them make their own mistakes.

He was fried by the deadlifts last time, hence he only made 2 attempts and was only succesful at 170kg. He could do 10 reps with that now.

He managed PB's in the squat, bench and overhead, that netted him 7kg total, his attempts on the clean and deadlift left him 12.5kg in debt, so overall he totalled 5.5kg less than his total could've been.

In all fairness he claims to not really care about winning, more about setting PB's, so the fact that he set 3 out of 4 attempted made him succesful.

Also in the past he's not been a chance of winning, but his Wilks is 510 currently( lifts made in past 2 weeks) that gives him a top 3 chance.

Will be interested to see if his attitude changes.

Like you already know Ray, the comp doesnt start till the bar hits the floor.
