All this paleo stuff, protien and carbs, processed versus raw... crossfit versus powerlifting is interesting discussion, we continually look for the easy way.
We no longer spend time killing and raping, we now look to other ways to satisfy our primal instinct.
The way I see it
Calories are calories. I'd rather get them from protein, increasing the number of fats for strength training naturally than get my calories from fattier foods or adding carbohydrates. What do you think will be better for insulin resistance in the long term? There is nothing wrong with getting the bulk of your calories from protein sources. Who gives a fuck about if it's overkill. You only need 30g of dextrose post workout to make yourself incredibly insulin sensitive. If someone added more, I doubt very much someone would call them out for it being "overkill"
Too much protein? Lol. No-one ever says too many carbs or fats. Yet the forum is full of fat perma-bulkers. I wonder why
The remainder that is unused gets turned into glucose and stored as glycogen
Tend to agree with this, if you are going to eat x amount of calories, you might as well have proteins and fat rather than adding processed carbohydrates. For exact reasons mentioned by Oni.
Unless you have trouble putting on weight, may be add carbs as well, not for health reasons but bulking reasons, carbs are not required or essential for the human body to be healthy. However fats and protein is.
THIS IS THE ENTIRE POINT OF THE THREAD
I put this in the last line so it would be the very last people read but yet people still missed it
Diet is PERSONAL PREFERENCE
CALORIES come first. There is no too much protein or fats or carbs. You just eat what allows you to eat what you need to eat. I need to lower my calories further. So I go for turkey mince. Why? Because I can eat 1.25kg of it in a single meal and still be low on calories. This is a lot and it fills me up. The protein is incidental. Sure I don't "use it all" whatever the fuck that means. But pushing protein high for me keeps me strong and happy while I diet down. I don't care about protein at all I am just eating in such a way that keeps me full. This means taking in half my calories from protein
Then you have Bazza, if he doesn't eat carbs when his glycogen depletes he can't keep the intensity up in football. So does this mean keto is bad or vice versa? No it means that for him he needs to lay things differently out. ITS PERSONAL PREFERENCE YOU'RE DELUDING YOURSELF IF YOU THINK THERE IS SOME SORT OF METABOLIC TRICKERY INVOLVED IN MACRONUTRIENTS
If you find that eating oats in the morning keeps you full and you're trying to bulk THEN DON'T EAT OATS. DOESN'T MEAN THAT OATS ARE BAD. If you're trying to lose weight and you find that chicken wings make you progressively hungrier as I did THEN DON'T EAT THEM IF YOU'RE TRYING TO LOSE WEIGHT
Why is this so fucking difficult?
How are you getting in that much?

I was eating paleo before it was called paleo
Good post. I agree.
From my POV, and at my age, all this shit is becoming even more important.
Trying to understand it all.
Past the age of 30 things start changing and I believe there must be emphasis on mainting a youthful body composition and activity patterns and levels.
Even going hungry sometimes Is a good thing.
I think the risks of our old wild human life has influenced our genes.
Seeing as we lived a short life due to the risks, (mainly by predators) our genes would have not invested in the kind of maintance functions that would keep us *well* in our old age.
Sort of explains why many over 70 become ill and frail.

Oxygen and a breakdown of telomeres are what causes illness and frailness in old age. Not really relevant but hey
