Sets and Reps for Leg Extensions

Trying to grow quads with squats and leg extensions. Squat routine is going great but leg extensions suck. I’m currently doing 8 working sets of 9 reps at 40 Kg for leg extensions but seem to have plateaued. Should I go heavier for less sets and reps or back off weight and up reps and sets?

    Progressive Overload

Should progressive overload be done at every training session or should I do a few sessions at a certain weight/reps before upping things? Also how much should the weight go up in percentage terms?

    Old Guy Strength Training

I’m a 71 year old male who still works out to maintain strength. My questions are ‘How many squat reps and sets and at what % of body weight are appropriate for someone my age’ and ‘At what squat weight (%BW) should I start using a belt’. Answers from someone of similar age welcome but all...

    I dont understand Deadlift Fatigue

So i trained heavy deadlifts yesterday doing 190kg 3x3s. the first two sets felt so good. felt like i could maybe rep out 1-2 more reps but didnt push it. I rested 6 minutes between sets and then on the third set the first rep felt good, second felt super heavy and the third i could only get the...

First two weeks to a month training?

Hi all. I'm just at the end of my first week in the gym. I'm 45 and haven't trained for about 15 years so am a little rusty. I thought for the first month I should do some conditioning so I don't injure myself so I'm going 5 days a week, doing very low weights and just doing basically big muscle...

    John Meadows Programs

Has anyone ever done these? I am following his programs now and making really good gains. My arms are now bigger than they have ever been! I am hoping that they hit 15 inches soon. I know it's not much but I always struggled with my arms. The arm workout I just did was: EZ bar curls - 3x15 to...

How fast to load up after recovering from injury? Deadlifts

I did deadlift for first time last night after 2 months without. Actually, technically it was a rack pull from knee height. I did 3 sets of 5 reps... only went light at 40kg. How fast do you recommend i load up? I was at 1x5 @110kg when i injured my lower back.... I am also trying to...

My squat day goes for 45min... my bench press workout is 1.5 hrs. Should i be bulking up my squat day? Currently 3 exercises... squat, paused squat and lunges. Or am i hitting my chest too hard... bench press, close grip, db bench, flys, then reverse flys, bicep curl and skullcrushers.... How...

    The reverse hyper

I don't want to hurt myself getting back into lifting so I am keeping things very light for a while. Of great interest to me are exercises that I can absolutely kill it on and give 100% without fear of injury My favourite for the lower body is the reverse hyper. I've been doing 200 reps a week...

    Fitness Challenges Suggestions

I have been training for a while now and I am getting bored at the moment, I need something to break things up for me a bit. So I am looking at some challenges to do. By challenges I mean things to achieve that would appear to be impressive tasks. Was thinking stuff along the lines of...

    Lift heavy, lean out

LIFT HEAVY, LEAN OUT So, you've got your mass-building program, but what happens when you want to cut? You'll have to switch up the program, right? Absolutely wrong! If the heavy lifting is what built the muscle in the first place, that's what's going to keep it there. If anything, strive to...

the importance of specific strength for sport, avoiding heavy lifts

I have been training a good triathlete for 10 weeks now, mostly on bilateral and bodyweight exercises. he has improved his leg power by 5%, a pretty good feat, but I/he was waiting to see how it helped his sport performance. yesterday he rings to say, that despite only doing 15km swimming per...
