[MartialArts] Martial Arts Fighting Styles

There was no mention of the two main western martial arts

Boxing
Wrestling

Training is full contact and people learn how to hurt and how to cope with being hurt. Cant say the same for many of the other martial arts. Judo being the obvious exception - those players take some punishment.

Didn't nearly all the top UFC fighters come from a Greco-Roman wrestling background before training in other styles?

Pure Greco is unusual unless training specifically for the Olympics. Most are classed as freestyle because there are so many offshoots (like Pancrase, Shooto, Catch, Submission, etc.) of scholastic/collegiate wrestling.

Guys like Nate Marquardt started out freestyle but move into Pankration for the grappling/striking aspect, rather than separately training grappling & boxing.

With the spread of MMA these days though, it'll be near impossible to find a guy who isn't well-rounded and training all aspects from the off in 5-10 years.

Wow a lot of information here. Very useful for someone looking to take take their bad assery to another level!!!
