For me, I did deficit deadlifts for a reason most people don't think about. At the start of the lift you generate a lot of tightness in the lats and push the hips through. This takes the slack out the bar and with 3 plates or less the plates will actually lift the ground
I did deficit deadlifts to train this tightness under overload. I would get tight and pull from exactly the same starting position but due to the extra ROM the bar would be bending further and I would have to be tighter to achieve that same tight starting position
