Not "useless", just not a priority. Gridiron Lineman might have more use for a big Bench than do NRL players as Gridiron players tend to lead more with their Arms when they clash/push at the Line, or whatever it's called. Rugby League players are religiously taught NOT to tackle with their Arms but get their bodies in.

Sure, a big Bench might help for Strength purposes, but not as of a priority as some other exercise.

same in nrl, many of the best forwards are not the strongest.

unlike lifting, in football you need guts and skill Gerry. strength, although I prefer to talk about specific conditioning, is just one factor. in lifting, strength is everything in terms of weight lifted.

one only needs to look at martin from Richmond who has both strength and skill when he brushed off tackle after tackle.
I can't wait for Kevin Aitken to join World Powerlifting.

I remember reading a autobiography of a All Black flanker who derided weights and said rugby was a running game. That it was imperative you hit the roads in the preseason.Whether that applies to league or not,im not sure.Perhaps forwards being interchanged off after 20 mins would make it more of a weights based game than old school rugby where they run all out for 80 mins.
