The closest injury in the past to the chest area would be a fractured collarbone.

I have also noticed this issue while using an ems training belt where stimulation to the front side section of my pecks tense my back muscles instead (I think the teres major and minor).
 
Have you tried wide grip dips for the stretch you desire?

I quite like Incline Press and Dips as a chest builder for a moobier male.

Maybe it’s your exercise routine affecting your sleep or diet.

Loss of sleep and/or bad sleep can have a drastic impact on working out and even your day to day life in general. I have had sleep problems on and off for about 15 years now.

In terms of recovery from training, the more sleep = the more recovery both mentally and physically but i would say more physically than mentally.
