Is this previous highest comp total?

Not sure what the rules are with the nominations, but it's interesting where the numbers come from.

I saw an interview with Heather Connor that said the girl above her had a nomination total from a 52kg class competition, yet nominated in the 47 as dropped weight classes. So depending on their weight at that comp, the numbers may be way off.

I see I see.

@woody;'s total must be from when he was competing in the 47 female also. Reverse Matt Kroc styles.

:p

well done woody, gold medal in his masters class. 635kg total at 60 years of age. damn fine lifting.

Competition report.

So, today was Thursday 15th, the day for Masters two, three and 4 lifters, male and female. It did not go to plan.

Schedule had lifters start early with an 11.30 break for the opening ceremony. I got up at 8.30 and had breakfast at the hotel then headed down around 11am to watch and be a bit of support. At the commonwealth powerlifting championships in Vancouver they had some interesting native culture. Not so here, just long speaches translated into Belarusian. Not only that, when I got there I was told that it had been postponed until 1pm. Not a good sign.

Hung about until 3pm for weigh in. By that stage, the M3 and M4 lifters were told that the 5pm start time was now 6pm. So while we weighed in at 3, we had to wait until 6pm to start. At least, thats what we were told. To cut a long story short, I started lifting just before 9pm. Yes. 9. So I had been there already for 10 hours. It got worse.

We finished after midnight, the lifting that is, but the medal ceremony had us there until around 1.30am. I was dead on my feet. It’s now after 2am and after not eating anything since breakfast, I am feasting on protein bars, nuts and wine gums. Nothing else is available. Unless of course I go next door to the “Corset Casino and Karaoke Bar”, but I suspect that food will be light on. I also have had 8 coffees today, no 9 counting breakfast, to help counter the late lifting (did not work perfectly, still tired), so I don't expect to drop off any time soon.

There were a few things I was very worried about that did not transpire. Maybe I should have been fretting about doing deadlifts around midnight. I needed to weigh in over 120kg. When I eventually hit the scale, with a very full bladder, I was 120.15kg, so spot on. That's thanks to lots of salty food the days leading up to the comp. Its all water retention. I expect to pee like a carthorse for the next few days.

It was very hot in the venue, with some serious spotlights throwing some heat around. I had my eyes closed most of the time on the bench press and the bench actually felt hot to touch.

My plan was to hit at least 200kg on the squat. I had some serious issues with upper quad pain over the last 3 months and I knew I was going to struggle just to hit my 180kg opener. Thanks to my coach for the day who threw on some deep heat cream and some serious ibuprofen consumption starting in the morning, I manage to get 205kg, but it was a struggle. I had barely managed singles at my opener for the last few weeks, so I did well, considering.

Bench was going to be touch and go due to a shoulder injury that is taking forever to heal. It was not too bad on the day. I also think I might have a hairline fracture in my right clavicle, which did not help. I got my opener easy, which was the plan with all my openers, then hit 145kg and decided to go for 152.5kg for my final. I lost focus on the ascent and lifted my butt so the whole thing fell apart. I should have gotten that easy, just a mis-groove and mental focus issue.

With deads, I was totally exhausted by the time they started. I had not eaten anything solid since 9am and it was starting to tell. I hit my opener easy enough which set a new world record (270kg) and that gave me the gold position with another total world record. I wanted to push on so went 285kg for my next lift and that was OK, but by then my left quad was starting to wake up from all the drugs. It wasn’t happy.

Went for 300 to finish just because thats what is expected of me and failed mid shin. I was just so wasted by then it was no surprise. Once it was all done there was most of an hour spent on the medal ceremony for all the weight classes. A pretty thin audience by then.

So, that’s it. I got my first world championship at long last. I set a couple of world record deadlifts and totals. Got bronze for my bench (which was a surprise), gold for deadlift and gold for overall. The latter is what I came for so despite the less than stellar figures, it was a complete success. I got a very crappy 635 total, the worst total I have ever had, except for my 600kg total in my first comp. I’m not unhappy as I got the championship medal, but I should have been up there in the high 600’s.

I hate to think what I will be like when I get old.

Have I ever mentioned that junior female Russian lifters doing squats and bench next to you in the warm up area increases test by 263.5%?

Pics later. Of the comp. And maybe the Russian lifter.
