Was any Athlete caught for PEDs at these Olympics. I know the Jamaican Sprinter was done for a past test, but any actually caught this time around?

You reckon they are ahead of the testers? The ones smart enough to know they hadn't got their regime spot on withdraw before the Games, and the other ones were smart enough to not get caught.

Then there's the clean ones, somewhere in there.

One of the Kenyan coaches was evicted from the games for standing in for an athlete's piss test.

Mongolian weightlifter, who DNF'ed his comp, was pinged.

http://www.bbc.com/sport/olympics/37150160

Also, a Kazzy lifter tested positive for strychnine. Yes, strychnine. He had won bronze but obviously now has had to hand that back.

Probably others.

Oni was on the synchronised swimming team and got pinged. Or I may have dreamt that.

So, nothing much has changed. Those that push the limits on clearance times and get on the podium are getting caught. Others that do not get on the podium and miss the random lottery of testing get away with it. Those with "good" coaches/doctors/trainers manage to get their system clear before the games or their final day of competition.

My opinion:

Everyone is "on". Everyone pushes the boundaries of what is legal.

You have someone who has trained 6 days a week for 4 years for one chance to win gold, often within a field where thousandths of a second determine success or self flagellating failure.

These people did not just wake up one morning a few months back and think, hey, I want to go to the olympics. These people are driven, type A alpha personalities. They train until they puke (unless they play one of those phaggotty sports like golf), get up at 4am to train in rain, cold, frost, heat, humidity and whatever else can be thrown at them. They are backed by a team of trainers, coaches and therapists. They have financial backing from governments and, in many cases, private corporations. If they fail, they may even face some sort of social or political backlash (hello PKR athletes). Their personal life is squished in around training and recovery. They give up all sorts of "normal" luxuries such as a social life, certain foods and relaxation time. All for those split seconds at the finish line.

Now.

You can get that extra split second, or extra kilo, or extra endurance by taking a legal substance. Do you take it? Of course.

But what if the legal substance is banned during comps? Well, still yes.

Now what if you know that if you sneak it in during a comp it will get you across the line?

No. I'm 100% natty. Right?

What if its an "illegal" substance?

What if you are struggling with recovery, an injury or just not improving as you should? Remember, you are not El Stiffy who does not compete and can have a day off any time he wants. You are still getting up at 4am and getting into bed at 8pm and doing all that other stuff.

Do you dope? Probably not if you are doing fine. What if you're not doing fine? Mebbe some peptides? Some fast acting stuff with quick clearance times? A bit of blood boosting or oxygen therapy? All for the greater good?

I'm pretty sure that given the opportunity and means, they would all be doing something at least "rule bendy".

What went wrong for Australia at the Rio Olympics? It started on the top floor

"Rio Olympic team chef de mission Kitty Chiller was angry when she heard that the Australian swimming team had pulled down posters of past champions, such as Herb Elliott and Cathy Freeman, from the entrance to their floors in the Australian team block in the athletes' village. But, with a thousand other tasks to deal with, such as blocked sewer pipes, she let it pass. Along with the posters went the Australian Olympic Committee's "one team" logo, replaced by the swimmers' "our team" logo. The swimming team, which occupied the higher floors of the Australian tower, had become a team within a team. When Chiller learnt, a week later, that the Australian team mascot, the yellow boxing kangaroo, had also been replaced by the Australian swimming team's Dolphin logo, she was furious. Chiller had already observed the exclusivity of the swimmers ....... "

Chiller has to just crawl back into the hole she came from. What ever she was doing didn't work and no one wants to hear from her again.

When it comes to elite athletes, the word "individual" doesn't work well. Of course I'm referring to PEDs here, where being an "individual" would get you in trouble 100% of the time. What does that mean on the ground? It means if you don't have a "team" backing you up; specialising and taking care of that wonderful subject we call biochemistry and pharmacology, then you might as well be watching the Olympics instead of competing in it..., or compete, but don't expect to beat the "competition" that is being backed up from the ground up.

Kitty Chiller angered viewers after returning from Rio

"Some applauded her for taking the steps necessary to protect our athletes, while some thought she was playing the role of school headmistress — a role they argued was unnecessary considering she was dealing with adults."

I argue that if adults start behaving like children, then they get treated as such. And who is in a better position to make a judgment on this matter than the person who was there up and close with the events talking place.

Writing the above, I am in no way restricting this to some top athletes or the person who was placed to be in charge of them. The above relates to everyday life. An adult will be treated as such not based on his age, but rather on the way he conducts himself.

Whatever they can use.
It's the Olympics. Any strength, speed or power sports are on, right @woody; ?

More athletes test positive in past olympics:

Interesting that all of the positive tests involve stuff that is not testosterone. All are orals or peptides. So, either they are not taking test or they are stopping it in enough time to completely clear their system.

Both Brock Lesnar and Jon Jones (in UFC) were done for PCT drugs by USADA. Assume they'd be on a similar regime as Olympians? Chael Sonnen got done for HCG so looks like Test is too hard to mask.

That's what I was thinking.

Chael did list what he was on and I can't remember if it was test or not.

I shoulda clarified, Chael Sonnen was on TRT then came off. Still, running HCG will give you an unfair advantage from what I know. Whether Sonnen ran it longer than a PCT who knows.

And you know whats interesting about that? Chael Sonnen says his Test levels are fine now, post TRT etc. Makes you think the only reason he was on TRT was for the performance enhancement while he was competing.

A rort as everyone assumed.

Lol when he got caught he was on more than TRT. A lot more.

He talks about it on his podcast at some stage.

I reckon all those hand ballers are on......
Dunno 'bout Handball. Like Basketball it supposed to be non-contact so I don't know how much of an advantage they would gain?
Skill and agility is a must though. See how they throw themselves around?

Yeah I know he said the testing isn't bullet proof as he was on other stuff. But we were talking about Testosterone. HCG is used to get/keep the Balls producing natural Test.

Microdosing. So you just take a little bit but for a long time - as you would with TRT prescribed by a doctor for your health. So it takes you to the top end of normal. They test you. you're the top end of normal, nobody thinks twice. If they were to do an isotopic test they'd get you, but they don't do those alone, they do them to confirm that your above-normal levels are coming from drugs.
