i am pretty apathetic by nature; i generally don't care what's going on beyond my physical sight (except for things like family).
Just those two points i think are important, as well as the morality of the guy; i think leaders should be very honourable and upstanding citizens who are widely respected.
Probably smarter to comply with the letter of the law rather than the spirit when it comes to something like tax.
'True and fair' is an audit term. Pretty sure that was third year accounting but it's a while back now. True and fair has exactly zero to do with the fulfillment of civic responsibility. Truth refers to mathematical accuracy and fairness refers to whether the presentation of the information as a whole is misleading. Truth and fairness is a very high standard to achieve and difficult to attest to which is why audit reports used to use the term 'presents fairly' rather than true and fair.

Tax Law is still Law. The spirit of the Act is what Courts eventually go to.
AASB101 Presentation of Financial Statements (True and Fair view) is first year Accounting, not just Auditing.
That's the name of an accounting standard. It still has zero to do with being a good citizen. If you don't pay your tax and the financials correctly record the fact, they will still be true and fair as far as the accounting standards go.

WTF. If your Financial Statements do not represent a True and Fair view it is essentially Fraud, although people will argue (successfully) that they complied with AASB666 Property Plants and Marijuana yada yada.
Accounting standards are about the preparation of financial statements. They are not about compliance with legislation, tax or otherwise.

WTF. AASBs (Australian Accounting Standards) have the force of Law under the Corporations Act.
AASB101 Presentation of Financial Statements:
"Aus13.1 The Corporations Act requires an entity’s financial report to comply with Australian Accounting Standards and, if necessary to give a true and fair view ..."
