Dozens of buffed, sculpted and extraordinarily well-tanned athletes will score a first for regional Victoria.
The Gippsland Natural Titles for bodybuilders, to be held at the Sale Memorial Hall on Saturday, is the first event of its kind outside Melbourne.
Organiser Dee Barbas said the sport was growing rapidly in Gippsland, and the field would have a strong showing of locals hoping to turn their sport into a career.
"The winners from our Gippsland Classic here will actually earn the right to go for their pro cards, which means they can then move on to becoming a professional," Ms Barbas said.

Bodybuilders must show a great deal of discipline, exercising at least two hours a day and refusing to stray from strict dietary guidelines.
"It's every day, it's 24 hours a day. These competitors are really putting in," Ms Barbas said.
"They are missing out on birthdays, they certainly missed out on Easter."
The demanding regime only intensifies the night before competition.
Ms Barbas said bodybuilders often found themselves utterly exhausted afterwards.
"The night before a comp, you're looking very tanned and you're looking very tired," Ms Barbas said.
[h=2]Bodybuilding recipe[/h]Bodybuilders follow a strict diet regime, but no evening meal is more critical to success than dinner the night before a big competition. Gippsland Natural Titles organiser Dee Barbas shared her favourite pre-competition recipe:

Ingredients:
  • Diced chicken breast, no skin
  • Mixed spices (chilli, ginger, pepper, garlic, cumin)
  • Sweet potato
  • Lemon juice

Method:
  • Put chicken in a bag with spices and toss to coat. Place chicken on a lined oven tray and bake in the oven until cooked
  • Bake sweet potato in oven until cooked.
  • Cut open sweet potato, roughly mash the flesh of the sweet potato, scoop chicken into the sweet potato and sprinkle with lemon juice
  • Serve with green salad

"It's a big thing and most competitors, by the time they get to their comp day, are pretty exhausted."
The competitors at the Gippsland Natural Titles will vie for medallions in 12 female divisions and nine male divisions.
Surprisingly, rock-hard six packs are not always a good thing for bodybuilders.
Ms Barbas said competitors in the bikini model division, for example, were aiming for a softer look without six-pack abdominals on show.
Asked whether there was such a thing as too much muscle for the open bodybuilders, Ms Barbas said it was a matter of debate.
"I guess you'd have to ask the judges that and a lot of people have their own views on it but, basically, the body needs to be nice and symmetrical so the body has a nice aesthetic shape to it," she said.
Aside from the bodybuilding competition, Ms Barbas said the event had plenty to offer anyone with an interest in health and fitness, with a number of fitness centres, personal trainers and martial arts trainers exhibiting at the titles.
The Gippsland Natural Titles will be held at the Sale Memorial Hall from 11am on Saturday, April 9.
