Ok. Everything causes cancer, but I have always been wary of chromium supps. Chromium was one of the major contaminants that were found at the infamous Love Canal site in New York. Lots of cancer cases came up after a new housing development was planted on a toxic waste dump. Well, the land was cheap and the developer was not going to live there, so whats the harm, right?

Anyhoo, now it appears that even very light supplementation with chromium may kick us in the nuts down the track. Add that to all the other crap in our air, water and food and its no wonder we are a bunch of whiney sick monkeys.

"We can't say for certain whether it increases the risk of cancer ... ... [but] the fact that we can generate the carcinogenic form in living cells is quite a concern."

Professor Lay said the latency period for chromium-induced cancer was often more than 20 years. "Chromium supplements have only been widely taken for the last couple of decades," he said. "If there are problems, they'd only be starting to emerge."

Hexavalent chromium (VI) is classified as carcinogenic to humans by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. It was the contaminant in the drinking water of the Californian town of Hinkley, linked to a spate of illnesses and made notorious by the film Erin Brockovich.

What is this supplement meant to do? (never read about it)
It deals with blood sugar regulation Tim. You may remember me writing about true cinnamon from Sri Lanka having similar effect on blood sugar levels....when discussing its (and sumac's) ORAC values. I'd stick with cinnamon.

Thanks Fadi. I really have no idea on what 90% of supplements are meant to help with...I just eat.
