I do single arm machine chest presses as you can't really stuff them up. Might give the dumbbells a go.
 
Out of necessity I have been doing some on my left side to try and strengthen it up in comparison due to nerve damage.
 
Did these for about 6 months last year while my left shoulder was recovering. When it gets heavy, there is much anti rotational core demand as there is for the pressing muscles.

Great exercise IMO. But just another tool in the tool box really.
