I would think if hes feeling dizzy after the first rep he must be using near maximal between 1-3 rep max? otherwise hes got something entirely different going on. maybe you should elaborate Jiggers..
Yes you are correct. It's 90% of my 1RM attempts. Going for 3 reps, the first one made me dizzy. The only way around this was not to take that 'triple sip of breath' to push my diaphragm down at max pressure but just brace as I normally do.

If I am doing a 8-10 rep set I don't take a breath every rep, I can valsalva the shit out of the first 2-3 reps with one big breath lol
 
i said ive worked with docs for 15yrs and my ex wife was a doc, where did i say i was one???
