Come in and talk about your IT job, goals, hobbies, what certs you're working on, and whatever else you'd like.

Senior Sys Eng at Managed Services company. The MS sector/industry is shit and I hate it. Everything is about minutes rather than service.

Mostly specialise in windows server crap, Exchange stuff and vmware stuff. Do a fair bit of firewall, phones and wifi too.

I write business dashboards , so deal alot with sql queries setting up vpn's , database management

and then the IT guy in the company , hardware troubleshooting for office as well as out in the warehouse

Seriously though, i am the IT guy here at the retirement home. When i came in everyone was using 6 year old linux TCs and one server. And they were planning to open a second facility.

Fast forward two years everyone now has a decent PC, we have three VM hosts, a decent enough SAN, a new Wifi network, new switches, new broadband, a new phone system, a new catering system, enhanced resident care applications and actual disaster recovery plans.

Oh and the new facility is about to open in 2 weeks.

And i did all the IT for that too with about a dozen PMs.

This job has given me grey hairs :(

I'm looking to get into the IT field as it cant be any worse than retail. After 11 years of retail I realised I am either going to top myself or start self medicating with heroin if I dont do something with my life. I am about to finish my cert 3 in networking and I am actually going really well in it, compared to how shit I went in school. For along time I doubted my abilities and thought I was a dumb **** but it looks like im actually not as dumb as I originally thought. I am worried about getting my foot in the door after getting my diploma but I guess ill wait and see what happens.

Is it worth getting the LPI linux essentials cert and the CompTIA A+?

Sales Engineer for a social network after 8 years in various roles in telecoms.

It's a good niche. Techie background but able to think strategically and speak to anyone up to C level about their needs and how our solutions can be used to fulfill them.

Also constantly working on side projects, mostly managing offshore developers who build solutions that I never release.
