Seriously though, i am the IT guy here at the retirement home. When i came in everyone was using 6 year old linux TCs and one server. And they were planning to open a second facility.
Fast forward two years everyone now has a decent PC, we have three VM hosts, a decent enough SAN, a new Wifi network, new switches, new broadband, a new phone system, a new catering system, enhanced resident care applications and actual disaster recovery plans.
Oh and the new facility is about to open in 2 weeks.
And i did all the IT for that too with about a dozen PMs.
I'm looking to get into the IT field as it cant be any worse than retail. After 11 years of retail I realised I am either going to top myself or start self medicating with heroin if I dont do something with my life. I am about to finish my cert 3 in networking and I am actually going really well in it, compared to how shit I went in school. For along time I doubted my abilities and thought I was a dumb **** but it looks like im actually not as dumb as I originally thought. I am worried about getting my foot in the door after getting my diploma but I guess ill wait and see what happens.
Is it worth getting the LPI linux essentials cert and the CompTIA A+?
