Keto diet - advice and ideas

Morning all, I saw a specialist about my sleep and digestive issues yesterday, and in consultation with another top prep coach have been diagnosed with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth / leaky gut.

i start a protocol of digestive enzymes, mucous membrane protection and rebuilding through supplements, but also am moving to a ketogenic diet to starve off the yeast and bad bacteria in my gut.

i haven't eaten a keto diet for over ten years, so a bit out of the loop, and las time I did it I think I ate too little fat, too much protein.

my calorie goals the last 2 weeks have been 2200-2500 per day, and I have lost approx 2 kgs per week initially. This should settle back to 1 per week with a 8000 calorie deficit per week.

i have constructed a rough plan, would appreciate constructive critique, or alternate food ideas

1. Bullet proof coffee ( black coffee, 2 teaspoons grass fed butter, 2 teaspoons coconut oil), 1 scoop dymatize ISO 100

2. 1 scoop iso 100 (after training)

3. 260 grams grilled salmon, cup broccoli, 2 teaspoons coconut oil

4. 200 grams chicken thigh, 1/8 avocado, mixed leaf salad (unsure of what dressing I can use, if at all)

5. Snacks throughout day - 100 grams macadamias

by my rough calculations, this should be approx 2300 cals, with a 65/30/5 F/P/C with the 5 being gross, not net carbs.

It seems like you know what you're doing. When I go low carb I just replace my usual serving of carbs with nuts (almonds or cashews).

Are you trying to go zero carb or low carb?

How did you go with the new protein powder, make much difference?

I want to achieve as low a carb as possible, whilst still getting some vegetable in. In the short term I am not concerned with fibre, but will need more once my gut heals.

If i I am going low carb, I may as well go full keto as I will have more energy.

The ISO 100 did make a difference, I felt less bloated and less gassy, and after my consultation yesterday I now understand this was because of the lactose and the size of protein molecules in the WPC.

Also, I have tried 3 flavours of ISO 100, orange dreamsicle, choc fudge brownie and banana, and rate them in that order. The orange dreamsicle is awesome!

What type of specialist did you see and how did they test you? did you just get a breath test? I have severe IBS and I would like to get tested to make sure I dont have SIBO.

If you need food ideas look up the Gut and Psychology Syndrome diet (GAPS) and Specific Carbohydrate Diets (SCD) diet as they are both meant to be good for people with SIBO.

INTRODUCTION DIET

Breaking the Vicious Cycle - The Specific Carbohydrate Diet

if you want some books I can recommend some of the ones I have read.

Just spoke with Luke, he suggested dropping the whey for a few weeks, and using EAA instead, just to be totally sure we don't trigger a reaction.

I have also read I will cope better if I have a electrolyte supp to replace sodium and potassium lost through glycogen depletion/ storage. It is supposed to help with fatigue and headaches.

Hi Romie,

we we did a series of bloods, urinalysis and stool samples.

We we have more booked in this week.

i am seeing a integrative GP, that practices both western and alternative medicine. I am seeing him on referral from my regular GP. I have done a heap of other stuff prior, including kinesiology.

i also regularly chat with a friend of mine, who is a holistic health practitioner, but he specialises in bodybuilder prep, and gut health.

i have been discussing the symptoms, and protocol with both, and they are both in agreement on cause and protocol.

It seems like you have some very good resources to help you, my doctor doesnt seem equip to handle my IBS issues and I have found more help from books at the moment. If you are in Sydney I would be interested to know the details of the integrative GP you are using.

I am Sydney based, and found this GP after two years of chasing my tail.

his name is Dr. Vial, and he practices out of the Gateway medical centre in Mona Vale. 99983400

he is not cheap (my first session was $200 - but I get a $90 Medicare rebate) and he takes a while to get a spot with him (I waited 6 weeks) but once you are in, he ensures you have regular access.

good luck!
