It's a good pre exhaust exercise prior to pressing mainly because this movement places more direct resistance on the deltoids, the press doesn't.
The arm being bent or straight will make no difference in relation to what muscles are stimulated.
Only that one will be able to use more weight with bent arm as opposed to the straight arm version because of the moment arm increase through the range of movement.
Definitely less stress on my elbows when they aren't locked out in the movement. Slightly bent, ideally assuming a position that's identical to when you're about to have a furious knuckle shuffle party.
