How are you supposed to activate your nuts?

Jungnaut

YOLO Kunce
Well, I've tried Pete Evan's way of activating my nuts by soaking them overnight. A bunch of almonds, walnuts, and hazelnuts for my morning brekky. The morning after I checked them out and they have turned slightly bloated and soft. And not terribly tasty in my opinion. So how do you guys activate your nuts properly, because surely I must be missing something here. Do I toast the nuts afterwards to make them tasty, or soak them for less time? Any help is appreciated.

Jungman; activating nuts really isn't necessary and soaking them (the proper word to use) is only necessary if you are planning to use them to make nut milks.

If you do soak them you just need to cover them with fresh cold water, cover, and leave for 8 - 12 hours.
Yes they soften a bit. You are then supposed to let them dry out.

you can roast them if you wish but then you'd be going against the whole crazy "raw" craze lol

but soaking them as i mention above is needed before using to make nut milks (not to "activate" but to make it easier to extract the milk).

just eat them raw or dry roasted as they are. it's all good.

Not entirely correct choc.

Sprouting your nuts raw nuts produces vitamin c also changes the nut in many other beneficial ways, increases Vit b content and carotene content, most important it neutralizes phytic acid which inhibits calcium and enzyme absorption.

so it's good.

lightly roasting has a similar effect, but sprouting in warm water is the best, but tastes like poo.
so you mix it with nicer tasting food.

lol yes it does do those things but in the grand scheme of things doesn't make a massive difference, unless you consume A LOT of nuts per day.

I prefer lightly roasting for eating and soaking for nut milks .. easy and still good.

Your scheme, and mine and someone else's are different, sprouting is as old as dirt, and very beneficial.

thanks @chocchillimango; I don't feel like eating sprouts for breakfast thats for sure. In fact I go as far as to say that mung bean sprouts are the worst tasting vegetarian food ever, almost as bad as fermented duck embryo. If activating nuts isn't going to make a huge difference then I can't be bothered with it, I had thought the nutrients would be more bioavailable if I did it that way. Which is great as I hate eating something and knowing it's not going to be absorbed properly! My gut has limited real estate so I got to choose my foods wisely.
