Compete, YES/NO?

Hi all, quick question.

My wife (42 years old, 3 kids) has been training for just on 2 years now, goal is to loose body fat and tone up. She trains with me, we do a 5 day routine, training each body part once per week ie: Shoulders Monday, Back Tuesday, legs Wednesday, Arms thursday and Chest Friday.

She has lost about 20 kg so far.

Just messing around last week I thought we would try and see how strong she is.

Monday on Shoulders she did 30 kg a side for reps on a Nautilus smith machine

Tuesday on Back, 65kg a side for reps on a Nautilus ISO lat pull down

Wednesday Squats really haven't tried a One Rep max (mental issues) due to having a back injury her whole life, she did a pretty good partial @ 150kg
But did 110kg for 6 reps, Fronts squats 90kg x2 and Box squat below parallel 90kg x 1

Friday Chest: Flat bench 100kg x 2, Decline 100 x 2, incline 60kg x 6 (issues)

Sunday deadlifts: 125kg x 1 (mentally difficult)

Do you think if we trained for powerlifting she may go ok in a competition?

All her lifts at the moment are as per bodybuilding ie: benches with arms a little more than shoulder width apart and back flat on bench.
Squats shoulder width apart etc.

Thanks all.

I doubt very, very, very much she benches 100kg for 2.

She may be very strong, and if she trained for PL, she may do very well.

Squat must have the crease of the hip below the knee, bench must pause ON the chest, deadlifts cant be hitched.

If you post up some vids, Id be happy to give you/her some feed back.

Are you talking bench press with a barbell on a bench or with a machine/apparatus/smith machine??? 100kg x 2 is more than half the guys on here bench.

150kg squat??? Again we talking squatting with a barbell on her back???

Lifts seem extremely high, may be she is just super strong though.

As Sticky said a video would be good.

Yes all with a barbell.

I know compared to what I have noticed, her bench is massive compared to her squat and deadlift, but that is totally due to her back injury and being scared that if it goes she would be in serious trouble for the rest of her life. Where as she has no fear with chest.

We are in the Gold Coast ATM
May drop in to Gold Coast barbell for a session.

Video, is a little embarrassing setting up a camera and tripod in the gym. Will see how we go and if I can hide her identity.

This is the crossroads I am at, she just wants to look better. But as soon we started training together, I realised she is a freak in her strength and maybe it's my male ego that's wants to push the strength side of things which is not what her overall goal is.

Maybe if it was 30 years ago we would have no issues going down the powerlifting route for a detour, but as time is running out to achieve the body image look, it may just be a "what could have been" thing.

Will keep you all updated.

Cheers.

Cheers.

^^^^^^this, no need for a tripod, you are not filming porn. It's only benching and squatting phone camera will be fine.

Is your wife Julie Snow?

How much can she calf raise?

No seriously, even if her lifts are not 'competitive' in terms of placing at large competitions that's not a good enough reason to not compete. If everyone waited until they thought they would win something there would be a lot less people competing.

Just jump in and give it a go. Who cared if you come away with the trophy or not.

PS - Just get her to squat, bench and deadlift with a bag over her head. It's not like you are running around. You can even cut out eye and breathing holes.
