Real Basic Powerlifting question

Real basic question

Should you be able to Squat more than you Deadlift or vice versa ? i'm talking about for the majority of people, not the exceptions

I downloaded a heap of IFP World champs 2012 videos (they rock!) and it seems the guys are squatting more than they deadlift

Majority of the general population, assuming unequipped competition, will deadlift more than they can squat.

Equipped is different.

Top 1% is also different.

As wingers said, most raw lifters should DL more than they squat.
The only real exception here is SHW. Quite a few out squat their pulls.

Wrapped squats will get much closer to deads.

Suited squats generally are bigger.

As wingman said, and sticky elaborated on.

At an elite level, you have different kinds of equipment and individual limitations that will change the game. For example, someone might be able to raw squat 600lb and raw deadlift 650lb. A deadlift suit might allow them to get up to 750lb before their grip gives out. Meanwhile, grip isn't as limiting a factor for squats, so knee wraps, briefs and a suit might allow for an 800lb lift.
