Knees

I have been having knee problems when I train. I refer to running and also leg press. As it has been a while since I did leg press and I cannot remember the pain accurately enough for a description, I'll just describe what I get when I run.

On the outer side of my knees, between the thigh and shin bones (whatever they're called), it hurts after long runs. Not sharp, stabbing pain, but... it's difficult to describe. Hurts a lot. After a 10km run (Bridge to Brisbane) I was in agony. The longer I run, the more it hurts. Responds to anti-inflammatories. Also, I get a similar thing in my hips, at the front, and again between the bones at the same time, though less severe. For some reason, running in bare feet seems to result in a lot less pain, but that's not something I really want to do in Brisbane.

I am wondering if it's a posture thing or something? Are there physio exercises to fix this? Is it a common problem? I really enjoy running, and it's annoying to have this problem.

go to a running shop and get checked out.
it'll end up being your shoes or gait or whatever they call it.

Maybe try running in those vibram shoes..

Or give up running.

Try foam rolling ITB, glutes, hammies, calves, quads.. then give it all a decent stretch - regularly. That plus warming up plenty before working out. This was what helped me alleviate my knee problem earlier this year - which was per physios instructions when I saw him.
