Essendon FC investigated over supplements

Wonder what they were taking, to be considered "pushing the boundaries"???

Essendon To Be Investigated By ASADA Over Supplements

Essendon facing AFL and ASADA investigation over its supplements given to players

"A former Essendon player told Channel 9 that the club knew it was pushing the boundaries with its program."

"From what they were saying, it was right on the borderline of what they were going to give us," he said.

"Everyone signed it, it was a personal choice as to whether they took it.

" ... it does seem very odd the type of stuff we were taking.

"They admitted to us it was right on the edge of the levels you could be taking."

They did start the season so well, and crashed so bad. Wonder if that was because they were coming off a cycle

It'll be a beatup bet its something stupid like bccaa and creatine or some other supp that is 'dangerous' when taken at 3kg a day by iv.

This quote seems like its more than DMAA or anything like that.

Agree. Once DMAA was banned, it was banned - there was no "level" to it. That's why I think test boosters etc.

They're also calling them 'supplements'. Rules out AAS, peptides?

I suggested DMAA because it is the only banned substance I can think of that is contained in legal supplements.

DMAA is only banned in-competition so I thought the "pushing the boundaries" comment might be referring to how close to game day supplements were being used. DMAA is allowed out of competition but obviously the more you take and the closer to game day you take it the higher the risk you will be caught with presence of DMAA on game day.

If a banned substance had been picked up during testing, we would already know about it, because ASADA typically returns testing results within about 3 months.

There are only a few substances which are actually banned by concentration, for example pseudoephedrine and T:E ratio. Pretty much everything else is banned at any detected concentration. Pro-hormones might lead to an abnormal T:E ratio but pro-hormones that actually work are likely to be illegal in Australia anyway. DMAA on the other hand was legal until very recently. There is no way Essendon FC was dispensing anything that wasn't available over the counter.
