With all this talk of Essendon FC and drugs in sports, it's clear that there is incentive to do this stuff to gain an edge when you're talking big business and big bucks. Even when there are big penalties, the reward is still huge. People will always consider doing them and evading detection because it could mean all the difference in their life - could be the difference between being a successful sport star, having the life and making millions of $'s, or an ordinary day job like most of us.

In the theme of this thread, do all these drugs etc help you get ahead in life outside of sports - in the same way it can pay-off in sports?

Baldness, Acne, Gyno... Possible unknown effects such as heart problems, liver problems, cancer... Impact on your system (cannot come off and build muscle cause you're too damaged)... The dangers with black market stuff.

Doesn't seem worth it outside of sports. I can see the incentive to 'level the playing field' if you're near the top.

A friend of mine achieved a 180kg bench, 115kg overhead press, and pretty much looks like the hulk... The result of 5-8 years of drug free training.
