2012 CAPO Nationals Preview

We are looking forward to the National at Albury, NSW, on 25-26 August 2012. We hope that many CAPO members will compete at Albury this year.
Here is a list of some of the guns who are likely to compete this year, although we are also hopeful that Derek Boyer and the WA guys will compete.
NSW
Leading the way from NSW will be big George McLaren who broke the Australian raw deadlift record with a massive 380kg and achieved a 915kg raw total, the second best CAPO raw total.
Big Dan Wright is close to a 900kg raw plus total given his recent 880kg total in the 140kg division at the 2012 NSW Championships, which included a 350kg squat, 195kg bench press and 335kg deadlift.
In the female raw division, NSW has a number of top lifters including Lucie Thompson who recently totalled 385kg in the 82.5kg division, and Katie Foster who lifted 372.5kg in the 67.5kg division.
And there is Taylor Young, who recently totalled 385kg raw in the 60kg division (57 years of age).

NSW also has many of the best masters lifters: Laurie Butler, Peter Weatherall, Greg Hills, Brian Jarrott, Dan Wright, Michael Nicholas. Laurie may get near 580kg raw as a 90kg lifter at 65 years of age.
QLD
Queensland has a number of gun lifters that will be lifting in Albury.
Jason Durbridge, already with a 842.5kg raw total (no wraps) at 110kg bodyweight.
Jeff Lam, the lightest CAPO lifter to bench press 200kg in raw competition, will again set some outstanding numbers in Albury on his way to Las Vegas.
Alan Kliese, who holds the CAPO raw bench press record at 250kg, is also expected to post huge numbers as an equipped lifter.
Dave Parmiter could also be one to watch with a possible 300kg dead lift at 82.5kg based on his most recent efforts.
Of QLD’s female lifters, Corelie Weir has a 310kg total at 52kg, while Katrina McIlroy totalled 320kg as a 60kg lifter earlier this year in Brisbane.
Victoria
While CAPO ranks in Victoria are struggling a bit, Gregg Gordon, who recently shattered the raw 100kg division total record with 765kg, is sure to fly the banner by posting some huge equipped numbers on his way to the WPC World Championships.
Victoria is likely to be represented by CAPO’s greatest ever bench presser, Ange Galati, who could become the lightest CAPO lifter since 2008 to raw bench 200kg given his recent 195kg lift at under 80kg.
ACT
The ACT will have a strong contingent competing at the Nationals this year. After competing in Canberra a day earlier, five ACT lifters travelled to Albury for the Riverina championships to qualify for the Nationals. Leading the Canberra charge will be Ariel Dencio, already a CAPO national record holder in the 100kg raw division with a massive 200kg bench press, and the recent winner of the June 2012 Battle of the Gyms competition at Elite Physique gym with a 730kg total (wraps).
WA
We hope that WA lifters can make it this year. Of the present WA star lifters, Corrie Ettia leads the way with 490kg as a 67.65kg at the WA CAPO champs.
WA women also have some excellent lifters, including 47 year old Monica Cook who recently bench pressed 82.5kg at 63.2kg bodyweight.
Tasmania
Tasmania is sure to have a great team given some outstanding results at the 2012 Tasmanian Championships. In the first CAPO competition including Raw Plus lifting (GPA), Wayne Howlett set four GPA world records in the 140kg division: 350kg squat, 235kg bench press, 315kg dead lift, and a huge 900kg total.
In addition, there is Adrian and Josef Tullo (father and son) who both won medals at the 2011 WPC World Championships in Riga, Latvia last November, as did Wayne Howlett.
Tasmania will also be represented by Anita Millington, one of Australia’s best female powerlifters, who also excelled in the 2012 Tasmanian championships when setting three GPA world records: 240kg squat, 106kg bench press, and 531kg total.

Don't forget Jase Durbidge from QLD, the raw National champ from the last couple of years. If he's fit he may total 840kg+ @ 100kg.

yes, there are a few i should mentioned; will update. Taylor Young is another one; 57 years old yet could achieve total at around 400kg as a 60kg lifter.

Can't wait for CAPO nationals as standard, especialy in raw lifting, will be amazing.

At present it looks like Shannon Florrisen may be the only one from W.A going across although I beleive Daniel Lawrence has expressed interest as well. I am still undecided at this stage.

Hmm right there are a few i should mentioned; will upgrade. Taylor Younger is another one; 57 decades of age yet could accomplish complete at around 400kg as a 60kg lifter.
