Andy Schleck looks set to miss the Tour de France after suffering a broken vertebrae, according to reports.
The RadioShack-Nissan rider, considered a major rival for Britain's Bradley Wiggins, crashed during the fourth stage time trial in the Critérium du Dauphine on 7 June. According to the Luxembourg website RTL.lu, an MRI scan is believed to have shown he suffered a broken vertebrae.
His team have announced a press conference for Wednesday afternoon during which they are expected to confirm his withdrawal.
Schleck has been the runner-up at the Tour de France three times – in 2009, 2010 and 2011 – and was later promoted to 2010 champion after Alberto Contador was found guilty of doping.
