You can drink and still lean out. But if you're really trying to cut avoid it temporarily.

    Damage control:

    - Eat ~500-1000 under maintenance
    - Eat mainly protein, fibrous veg - limit starch and massive amounts of fat for the day
    - The sugar in your mixers is the killer, avoid it
    - The post workout (drinking) meal in an inebriated state doesn't help either.

The negative hormonal effects of heavy drinking aren't the best, but there is no point telling someone not to drink if they want to make it a part of their lifestyle and consider it part of living. They'll be doomed to fail otherwise or not try at all. So the best thing to do is set in stone damage control practices. You can definitely drink and maintain a good physique. This is more a psychological technique than a physiological (although both have merit). Most people suffer all-or-nothing syndrome. If they feel they have had a big night, they'll write it off and have a completely shit weekend from Fri-Sun. Noticed this with many clients. If you put in the damage control tactic, they're less likely to feel as though they have completely failed - and are able to get back on the horse and in business the next day.

If you're headed for the top though... well sacrifices need to be made.

You don't even have to do all that.

When drinking count all calories including drinks and hit protein for the day and don't go over calorie allowance.

You must have other problems if having a few drinks gives you half assed results.

Still, wouldn't advise alcohol, if you planning on a good workout in the next few days...

I love a few drinks, more often than not too many.I drink too much and am putting plans into place to limit my drinking to weekends only and as I'm approaching 50 yo I'm definitely seeing more and more unwanted physical changes.
I'm with the moderation crew on this one,a couple of drinks here and there shouldn't be a problem, drinking every night imho is not good for anyone but having a few now and again can be just good fun
