One exclamation from me gentlemen: WOW!

I've said earlier on when Salimi broke the snatch world record last year in France that he would go on to do big things at the London Olympics this year. If all goes well, I can see this gentle giant attempting an unheard of world snatch lift of 220kg!

It's a real shame that the rules have changed and world records cannot be broken except at the Olympics and World Championships. What's upsetting about this ruling is the fact that it was based on steroids use/abuse. To that I say: really!!! Thank you God for the new and "clean" weightlifting of today! I hate it when people insult my (and your) intelligence.

Enjoy the vid and let’s leave it at that good and intelligent people.

Can you provide a translation Fadi? :p
Oh you're funny wingman :D. Had it been in Arabic it would have been my pleasure to translate it for you Sir, but I don't understand Farsi (or Persian as the English people know it).

Those cleans especially looked very effortless.
You're right on the money there my man, and what is so interesting about it, is the fact that Salimi is a snatch specialist (or at least he was) before his C&J is rapidly catching up.

Did you enjoy the awesome lifts Wingman?

Yes I did, I find the olympic lifts fascinating to both perform and watch. I remember him from previous videos as being great at the snatch which is why his clean stood out for me.

What a great lifter. I wasn't aware of the world records challenged ruling. I knew that there would need to be international referees to pass the lift with a likely jury to watch over the refs.

He is a real snatch monster!! In terrific shape for a SHW. If he can pull off a 220kg snatch at London...a possable 290kg clean and jerk will be waiting for him.

290kg may be a very long while into the future perhaps. We've got to crack the 270kg mark first Pete. Andrei Chemerkin had a go at 272.5kg at the 2000 Olympics but only managed a lift off.

I think a 220kg snatch coupled with a 270kg clean & jerk would be a realsitic ask for a super superheavyweight lifter, I mean that lifter to be able to bring the technique of the snatch and coincide it with extreme power of the C&J would be the pinacle of what weightlifting is all about.

This magic has been acheived last at the 1988 Olympics by the pocket Hurcules Naim, when he C & Jerked 190kg and snatched 152.5kg for triple world records: S, C&J and Total!

May the best man win at the 2012 Olympics.

It seems to me that the OWF has changed their mind yet again as at which weightlifting tournament a world record can be broken. I've just seen Tatiana Kashirina have two cracks at the C&J world record for the 75kg+ weight category (she weighed 100.9kg) which makes her a small/light lifter compared with the other lifters in her group. She has a go at 149kg twice and missed it. But the point here is, the comp was the 2012 European Weightlifting Championships. So I'm not quite sure why Salimi's record was unofficial! I need to do more homework... as well as keep up with all the constant changes that are implemented by the weightlifting world body.

If you had to pick just one weightlifter to win gold at 2012 Olympics, who would it be?

Well wingman, I say Salimi has a good prospect, so does David Bejanyan of Russia lifting in the 105kg devision. Check this 238kg World record smashed in 2011, with easiest power jerk your eyes have ever seen!

No worries mate. Please stop me from calling you wingman, what is your name mate?

Fadi.

My name is Dave, but since we have a few thousand Daves on the forum already I'm happy to go by my alias :p

Back on topic, I spoke to Glenn Pendlay today on a forum. He told me that some of the USA's best weightlifting hopefuls are smokers. This had me in shock.

Dmitry Klokov smoked an unofficial world record snatch of 205kg in training recently. I'd like to see him get gold.
Klokov is an extremely deep snatcher yet very solid at the same time, giving him the best of both world: power as well as stability (at that very low/ass nearly touching the platform) bottom position. I like Klokov, but I also like the Klokov's team mate Khadzhimurat Akkaev, who killed it last year and beat Klokov where it counts most, on the platform. Let's not forget the phenomenal Polish master: Dolega.

Here's how Klokov was beaten by an amazing lifter from Russia... with love!
