Mate I went from straps to raw and yes for a short while it held back my deadlift while my grip caught up but now I'm pulling 257.5kg raw.

Get some chalk and white knuckle the shit out of the bar before you lift. Deadlifts are my forearm training.

You're a bit late to the thread champ
IIRC I used finger curls to develop my grip when I started using hook grip.
I just use mixed grip now and grip has never really been a problem
