What Do You Consider "Old School" Strength Training?


We hear it all the time
"Old School" Strength Training , back in my day we did things like this , things were so much simpler with all these fangled strength training ideas and e a zillion pieces of equipment at your disposal to get stronger

What do you consider "old school?"
Do you incorporate any old-school training ideas into your regimen?
Commercial training vs. Old-school underground training; who do you think achieves better results?
 
Old-Skool training IMO is just training with a bar and weight, or other simple implements like sandbags, tires, logs, etc. Next to no machines (simple cable machines were available in the 70's) and cardio was done outside.

Old-skool routines were simple periodisation, no time under tension or other garbage. BB'ers trained with basic routines, added weight as needed and mixed strength and pump-training. American based PL routines were generally linear (look up Coan/Hatfield routines) and other commonly used PL routines like WSB and 5/3/1 are all based on old soviet periodisation.

Read "Dinosaur Training" if you want to get some good ideas about Old-skool lifting.

Most of my training is based on Old-skool ideas and, aside from the addition of band work, uses strictly old-skool equipment. Most commercial gym equipment is unnecessary, if Arnie didn't need it the nobody else does either. Old-skool ftw.
 
In my mind, it's not oldschool unless you have a pornstar moustache and all evidence of your training is recorded in black&white photograph form :D

In saying that, most of my training is barbell strength training, with the occasional cable, DB/KB (depending on what's available), medicine ball or bodyweight exercise. Barbell squats, presses, deadlifts, cleans...cable rows, cable woodchops, pull ups, dips, burpees, medicine ball slams, DB/KB swings...

And any lifting without, straps, bands, wraps, more than 6 reps and more than 3 exercises beyond, squat bench deadlift

I think full body is old skool. Until the early eighties body part splits were unheard of.
Either style can elict gains, just comes down to personal preference.

I see some confusion withing this thread, beginning with the OP itself. So naturally, replies to the question were also answered accordingly, (perhaps) with confusion of the core matter the OP intended to discuss. For example, Darkoz's reply here:

Perhaps I'm taking this whole thread a bit too seriously you tell me. However I reserve my input until someone can actually tell me where exactly are we heading (or replying to) in this thread. Are we discussing the element of strength in the bodybuilding section, or are we in fact discussing old school bodybuilding? I was prompted to write the above when I saw Darkoz's reply, which has mixed messages all the way through, all true and correct, pending onwhat subject matter it is that we're supposed to be discussing here. Thank you.
