Your mission for this week if choose to except is , What Is The Best Barbell Workout?

Equipment , you have an old set of weights rusting away in the corner , you're a beginner , what is the best workout to do with barbells

What is your favorite barbell exercise?

What are the benefits on an all barbell workout? What are the negatives?

My favourite bb exercise is deadlift.

For a beginner with only barbell, I'd say:

Squat
Bench Press
Deadlift / alternate with SLDL
OH Press
Row
Curls
Shrugs

Squat, Bench Press, Bent Over Rows, Military Press, Dead Lifts, Barbell Curls.

Having a bench and Squat Stands would be an advantage though:)

mine would probably be the military press.

What DKD posted. Id do all those exercises mixed up 3 times a week. Add some body weight (dips + pull ups) and im all set.

Barbells > Machines. But machines do have their place (especially the cable).

When i trained at home with just a half rack and bb, every second day i would;

Dead
Bench
Squat
Military
Row

I still primarily use the bb, rack and dip/chin bars.

A.
Press
Squat
SLDL

B.
Squat
Pullover
Bench press
Curl

The pullover would be better served using the nautilus machine.

Lets not forget the deep knee bend!!

My fav is military press

Squat
MP
Row
MP
SLDL

3x a week, cant go wrong

The fact that you have MP twice in the exercise list confirms your love of the exercise :D

For an all barbell workout for a beginner, I'd just do something like Starting Strength, StrongLifts or All Pro's Simple Beginner's Routine from BB.com. If we get real mean and assume that there's no bench or uprights of any variety, then I'd take a similar style of program but focus more on Olympic lifting style movements (use front squats and overhead squats - or even just squat cleans and squat snatches - instead of back squats; push jerk or split jerk instead of bench press; and maybe some T-bar rows).

A.
Squat
Bench
Standing curls
Deads
SOHP/MPs
head smackers/or some kind of triceps exercise
Rows

3x8 on all exercises, 3xWeek.

If you had a barbell, plates and floor space ie no rack I would go

Dead-start Zercher squat
Standing Overhead press
Romanian Deadlift
Floor press
Bent Over row

The Mil press is my fave, then the basics

squat
bicep curl
dead lift
bent over rows
lunge, holding a plate to your chest
sit ups holding a plate to your chest
thats a good start
