Protein powder on specific diet

Hello. I am new here.

I've been body building on and off for the last 4 years (was quite hardcore for the first 3 years but toned down last year due to studies) and used to take quite a bit of supplements to aid my muscle building. I am about 5' 4" and originally weighed 52kg but bulked to 64kg at my peak. I maintained that level for a year but then last year I more or less stopped weight training for studies. My weight has since fallen to below 60kg as I have an ectomorphic body. I've started weight training again and am quite happy to see that although my weight has fallen, I have managed to still maintain quite a bit of muscle (more than I expected). I once again want to start taking protein powder (or a weight gainer) to supplement my weight training... though there is a problem.

A couple of months ago I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (inflammation of the intestines) and have since developed an intolerance to milk (lactose AND whey) and gluten. The illness has made my bowels quite sensitive and I get a lot of gas, urgency and diarrhea if I am not careful with my food. I have found I can't take a large amount diary products. In order to stablize my symptoms I have gone on a special diet (known as the Specific Carbohydrate Diet) which basically restricts the food I eat to meat, vegetables and fruits. Most complex carbohydrates beyond monosaccharide sugars (glucose and fructose) are prohibited. Thus I can't take rice or soy beans.

Is there anywhere that I can purchase a protein powder that complements my diet restrictions (that is, no whey, lactose, soy beans, refined sugar, flavouring or too much eggs)? I have done a bit of research and it appears that Gemma Protein is really the only protein I can take. I have seen a website offering Gemma Protein powder for sale but it only shipped within the USA and the powder also contained refined sugars.

I understand I could simply just eat a lot of meat but I am naturally a small eater and would vommit if I crammed my face.

It would be expensive but beef protein isolate and perhaps whey isolate and some varieties of casein.

pea protein isolate... I would of suggested rice protein isolate, but it sitll contains some starch its about 84% protein i think...


I hope you are taking digestive enzymes daily as well...

Other then that the best bet would be to take EAA's and BCAA's + l-glutmaine..

(you should be taking L-glutmaine) with bowel problems anyway..

I know its expensive but you should 100% be taking this.

Thanks for the replies. Yes I am starting VSL #3 soon, sounds like a very good probiotic.

Where would I be able to purchase Beef Isolate or Gemma Isolate powder? I was looking at True Protein but I get an error message everytime I try to place an order...

Your diet sounds like mine. I simply eat a lot of meat. I don't take any supplements.

If I'm not eating enough meat, it's because I haven't worked out hard enough or I have eaten too much fruit/veg.
