What is your favourite football code and why?

I actually think Vick's is the best athlete playing football at the moment anywhere in the world

Did you see some of the ridiculous plays he managed to pull off vs the Giants on the weekend?
He single handedly led the team from 21 points down with about 7 minutes to go to winning in the final play of the game.

Look at around 2.45 then 3.22

The Eagles are about the only team that would really concern me if they were playing the Patriots at the Superbowl (as a Pats fan assuming their form continues through to the end of the postseason).

Vick's ability to destroy a defense and win a game (especially one that looked all but over like this) in such a short period of time is a very potent weapon.

Aussie rules football is by far my favourite. I don't bother with the other codes at all. But that's ust me.

I think football is easily the best football code in the world. It takes a little from every code, toughness, skill, speed, aerobic capacity.

I agree Markos. Its such an awesome game to play, its also very difficult as you have to be good at lots of different aspects of the game. There are not many specialised roles any more in AFL. You need to have a number of strings in your bow if your to make it in the big leagues.

Australia has many of the football codes and AFL is the dominate sport here :) Its the dominate sport for a reason ;)

Not according to Australian Sports Comission statistics. They would argue that "Football (Outdoor)", which I can only assume is soccer seeings as "Australian Rules Football" is listed seperately consistantly maintains higher participation rates.

You can look at the statistics for 2009 at the following link (it will open a pdf of about 2mb): http://www.ausport.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0005/377069/ERASS_Report_2009.pdf

And thats only if you compare to other football codes. If you're looking at all sports, as you said, it is outranked by a number of sports participation wise.

Suppose it depends on how you measure dominance.

Sorry, I did not specify what I meant.

In terms of spectator attendance AFL wins hands down.

Yeah no doubt.

Did you notice who topped the outdoor sports worldwide for average attendance?

Sorry, had to do it.

Yeah I did :) Those american's love their grid iron. Great stuff. I'll take our home grown Aussie Rules Football over it any day though.

Rory, give up, Gridiron Australia is chasing participants by putting posters in the toilets at TGI lol

Nobody from any football code in Australia can argue about the biggest code in Oz in regards to spectators.

If soccer is soooooooooooooo popular, why do they average 5000 to a game lol

A League will fold in a couple of years, just like the Philips league did.

Unfortunately gridiron doesnt rate here Rory, never will.

Just like NASCAR, its a yank thing only

Have you ever seen a better display of sportsmanship on the field than this? It warms the heart, and the loins. Number 9 went for the handshake, missed and got a handful of tah-tah's instead!

I've lost interest in most of the footy codes, dunno why really, they just don't do it for me anymore...I love MMA and cricket.

I did used to like league, but somehwere along the line lost interest....heaps better game than the stop-start fiasco that rugby is though. I played both these codes when I was younger and league is definitely tougher, you get more bruised there than in union.

Was into EPL once upon a time, but got jacked with the same clubs being up the top every year....EPL is the best advertisement for a salary cap you'll ever get. Agree with the comments on A-League, it's just treading water for now.

Gridiron is tactically very interesting game. Never had any interest in AFL.

... isn't about time for televised power lifting comps?

I mean they do the strongest man stuff with the atlas stones..

AFL is the only code for me but im sick of the constant rule interpretations and softening of the game.

I'm going to take a different route and say this.

I've caught the Lingerie League a few times on Fuel TV. It cracks me up how the commentators remain completely serious during the game. They treat is a legitimate full-on serious league. It adds to the hilarity of the whole thing.
