Fitness, figure, female bb's and performance enhancing drug use

Here's a link to a really interesting article I read the other day-

D-Cups and D-Bol - Women and Anabolic Steroids

Here's part of it;
"Now that we're vaguely on the same page, we can go over some basics regarding female anabolic use. It's pretty common to hear people say things like "even fitness competitors use a low dose of ‘Var or Winny here and there...maybe some Clenbuterol". This is absolute bullshit. Competition level doses I've seen are actually much higher than people think... basically around 10 mgs of Anavar (never less), stacked with an equal amount of Winstrol, and a bunch of Clenbuterol. I can't remember the last time I've read a female bodybuilder or fitness girl's drug program and not seen Growth Hormone in it- usually about 2IU's a day (interestingly, IGF-1 hasn't really busted onto the female anabolic scene yet, nor has MGF or the other peptides). Thyroid hormone is used in nearly every woman's precontest phase, and doses can get pretty outrageous here. Proviron is pretty big when they can get it, and most of them take the same dose I do (25-50mgs/day). Some take more. Primobolan, both tabs and injectable, are popular with women, when there's enough cash around to afford it. Most of the upper level competitors usually don't have that kind of cash when they first break onto the national scene, though. Why? Because breast implants are expensive- and the last show I went to, there were only four that weren't fake. And I don't mean four women, I mean four breasts. "

Steroid use is such a taboo topic so I must admit to being surprised at the number of articles out there that discuss the use of steroids amongst figure competitors. It never even occurred to me that it would be an issue, but then again I am pretty naive about that side of drug use.
Just to be clear, I am neither anti nor pro steroid use, but I think it's interesting that it's NOT just the massive body builders who use steroids- looks like some of those cute, slender "healthy" looking gals in fitness and figure also use performance enhancing drugs.
I guess at the end of the day if you want to make a living (or try to anyway) being a fitness competitor/model diet, hard training and good eating can only take you so far, because there will always be someone who is more genetically blessed... I suppose it's a way of increasing their chances of making it in such a highly competitive arena.
Anyway, thought this might interest some of you.

Personally I'm training really hard and have my sights set for entering the novice division in figure next October. I'm training 3-4 days a week at my local gym and one day a week in Frankston with a lovely woman who coaches lots of competitors (Andrea Excell).
I'm excited to be competing and am eating more than I have ever eaten in my life :p
Best of all I'm already seeing some real changes in my physique- I actually had a guy say to me "Wow! You look fit!" as I was walking to the shops the other day and a few people have asked me where I train, so I guess I'm starting to look like I work out.
I'm getting my first progress shots done in the next week or so, so I'll post them here if I don't look too shit-house ;)
Hope everyone's well,
Em

I'm no pro on women's anything but don't they come in around 8%? thats a pretty big call for a natural female...

It's certainly not healthy to be that low for any length of time, but I have been down around 10% purely through caloric restriction- no exercise.
Water manipulation (including the use of diuretics), carb stripping, salt loading then stripping can all get a woman down to that point for a comp. But of course, the various drugs mentioned are going to make getting that lean without losing muscle mass easier and with less drastic dietary manipulation.
To be honest IDK why they don't just take speed if they wanna get that lean. I mean really, I doubt you're going to get legit clen- they're both illegal and I assume amphetamines are easier to get a hold of because it's not a specialised product, any pub'll do :p ...I'm joking (kinda) but I really don't see a big difference between being wired on clen or wired on speed, they're both liable to cause problems if you abuse them and they both carry the risk of detection and legal issues *shrugs*
Either way, I hope my genes are going to be good enough so that I don't ever need to use juice (but I'm not naive enough to ever rule it out either).

Competitive BB are drug fests make no bones about it.

What Fed are do you intend competing in?

I'm not sure yet, we're waiting to see how my physique develops next year, I might be well suited to one but not another.
I'd like to do IFBB because there's more potential for sponsorship, money and exposure down the line, but it's also not a testing federation and the women are definitely bigger than, say, INBB or ANB.
I'm not short (165cm) but I'm still pretty small, I have 4 inch wrists and long muscles, so the reality is I can't go up against the chunkier IFBB girls au natural if I want to place.
IDK, it's hard. And I don't trust anyone lol, so I would be very wary of taking anything- I don't know enough about it anyway, I only know the other type of drug users and I steer clear of them now for my own health. I'm just trying to bulk up naturally and I guess I'll see where the future leads- I'm a ~massive~ 59 kg right now :D lol
The thing is, I've heard that even the "natural" federations are full of off season cycling and so on, which makes it hard- maybe it's best to just suck it up and go in a fed that doesn't test, because at least you know everyone is using- it's more honest than "naturals" who use, if you know what I mean.
At least I have no desire to get huge. Some of those synthol guys...*shudders*

If you are happy to compete against untested athletes than IFBB is the way to go. Greater exposure.
I too am weary of he tested feds because I am aware of drug takers who have competed and placed in those Feds. Not sure how they beat the drug tests. Fake or sythetic urine possibly.

Yeah, I've heard of people draining their bladder then inserting a catherter and filling up with clean urine >.< ouch! NGL, I would be pretty pissed to lose to someone in a "natural" federation who used.
And you're spot on, IFBB definitely gets you greater exposure and that leads to greater earning potential, pro cards, sponsorship etc etc. I doubt I'd compete in their federation naturally because I don't think I could measure up to someone who uses without using myself.
I guess it's a wait and see situation, hopefully my genes and determination will be enough.

are you able to post up a pic. Are you thinking of competing in BB or figure, because with the figure comps you really do not need the absolute shredded look making drug use less common.

sorry about the pic spam

Ahhh, yeah I can. But please take into consideration that I'm currently "bulking", so I'm bigger than I normally am (I'm about 5 kg overweight) and, y'know, I'm 39 with a kid and I've only been back lifting seriously for about 6-8 weeks after several years out of the gym, so I look pretty shit lol :(
I've got 10 months to get into shape, I think I can do it. Oh, and I'm obviously aiming for figure, I'm way too small for physique.

I'm getting some progress shots taken next Thursday at the gym, so I will update the pics then (it's hard to take pics of your own back with a phone camera haha)

This is what I looked like when I was only restricting calories- no exercise

I figure if I can get than lean purely through starving myself imagine how I could look combining caloric restriction and exercise.

My biggest issue is my size- I have very little muscle mass, and it's hard to get past the mental block to eat as much as I need to to get bigger. I'm doing better than I was, but it's fucking hard especially being a recovered anorexic.
I was technically anorexic in the skinny pics, I weighed 46.6 kg @ 165cm and I'm currently 59 kg, hence the gut :\

You look fine in your bulked state. we all need to bulk at some stage. I do think when you were on cal restrictions you did not have enough muscle, you looked anorexic.
make sure you lift with intensity, because if you are bulking without training with high intensity you may just pout on fat and little muscle.Train, eat and rest.

What does your training schedule look like, sets, reps, days per week etc??

What does your training schedule look like, sets, reps, days per week etc??

I'm training 4-5 days a week, minimal cardio, just weights. I've just gone onto a split body routine, the first month was full body one day, static training the next alternating 4-5 days a week.
Now I'm doing the typical
back, bi's & abs/chest & tri's/legs/shoulders & abs Monday thru Thursday (I sneak in an additional ab workout with some bi's or tri's thrown in on Saturday even though it's not in my programme).
I'm seeing Andrea Excell once a week- she's training me for next October and this is the initial programme she has for me, but I expect it will get changed around every few months.
I'm doing 4 sets of 10 reps, increasing weight until I am near failure in my last set. I'm getting DOMS after my workouts, which I like because I know I've worked hard- I find listening to Rage Against the Machine, Pantera and so on helps me really work hard too :p
I am doing bench and squats but no deadlifts yet, Andrea doesn't seem to like them even though I love deadlifting. I like compund lifts, but she also has me doing typical body builder stuff- bicep curls, flys, kickbacks, leg curls, hamstring curls etc etc etc.
IDK, I trust Andrea, she's had a lot of people place and she was a body builder herself (physique) so I guess I'm relying on her to guide me towards my first comp.

I would trust your insticts more than Andreas. You do not need kickbacks and flyes right now.
Squat, deadlift. bench, row, press, chins and some calf work. For fun throw in some curls for bi's and dips for tri's.
